View Full Version : Realzing my 1/8th scale dreams....sometime soon...

For about 2 or 3 years now I've been dreaming about building up a super custom brushless rig. I think the time has come for me to finally go through with it and finally build the damn thing.

So I've got this Ofna 9.5 buggy, seems to me that it should make a great platform for a nitro killer. Now this is indeed going to be a track machine and it will be designed with that in mind. I'm torn right now as for what BL system to put in it though (who isn't torn between BL systems though?), I'm thinking a Feigao 10L/Schulze U-force would be very nice (12 ni-mh cells, dont have the cash for li-po). I could wait for the new Castle creations system to come out (which I could get at cost since I work at a hobby shop, I don't think I could get any other brands at cost though :( ). Or I could cheap out and buy a Novak HV maxx (once again at cost), which would really suit this project well, execpt that I doubt it would have enough power, not to mention after checking out the specs the thing is really heavy!

Features I'm hoping to include:
Full Carbon fiber dual deck chassis with ample aluminum bracing
12 ni-mh cells
Extremly narrow layout, centralized weight
Proper weight distribution
Low CG
Light weight
Long run times
Quick change batteries
New body, cant have unsightly nitro holes!
Lots of other stuff has been swirling around in my head

This is a project that will probably take a long time to come to full realization, but I certainly hope it all works out.

Any advice from you guys who have done these conversions already? I'd love to hear something from you guys.

i will be selling conversion kits for several cars soon, your 9.5 is not YET under them, but this could be turned upside down i think.
my kits will include every part to make a fully new car:
12 cell, center balanced, carbon under and upper deck, room for a feigao L version or any other 25mm bore circle and 36 mm outside diameter and up to 60mm long can motors (so even standart 550 will fit !!)

the roller including all electrics, body (a underbody will soon be available too) and only less 12 sub c cells weights 2550 gramm !!!

so my question will be: have you already bought that car or not, if not choose between, the lightning 1 or 2 or the stadium truck or a ofna mbx or lx chassis or the gs racing storm or sut cars, all of these i do have ready.

greetings from germany !!

I've owned this chassis for about a year now. I'm also considering the MGM 12012, but since it still does have the braking from partial throttle to nuetral I don't think I will be getting it unless this is changed.

BTW- Anyone wanna buy a Tamiya TB-02 I need some money!

Here is the way I did it on my 9.5. I think it was a T3 motor plate. In the future I would reccomend 2 plates stacked as 1 flexes a little. Two holes were drilled to bolt the brake holes and one was drilled in the bottom plastic part under the diff.

Dang Mr. C. I was waiting for this news. I already have a few lipos. How much will the kit average. Or mabey the price for the lightning 1.

Are there options for the kits? Say I already have a lightning 1 but just need everything else (minus motor and electronics) to do the swap.

After studying all the feigao motor charts at starluckrc.com I've some to the conclusion that the 9L motor should be a good motor for this project. At 14.4v a 68A draw will create 949W or 1.3hp, which is as much power as any .21 nitro big block. Do you guys think this will be enough power? I figure it should be but you never know. Also what about the S motors, according to a voltage X Amperage equation the 9L would create more power and RPM without going over the U-force's limit. Though I suppose I might have to get a smaller pinion for it than what is normally avaliable (under a 14t). With the 9L I could run a 15t in theory since it will spin about the same RPM as a nitro motor. I think if I see favourable reviews of the new MGM 12012 I'll definately be going for that, but if not its the Schulze U-force for sure, no point in getting a junk ESC.

the 9L is a perfect choice, but check the temps on the uforce, itīs hard on the limit.
Jamie will stock 12-14 teeth pinions soon, so this wouldnīt be aproblem either.

@ timis tim:

the features will be roughly:
very small and lightweight (around 2,5 kg with all electrics, less batterys) it will hold 6-12 cells and a B 50 or 540/550 comparable motor up to 60 mm lenght, the system will include several options:
longer truck chassis (up to 14 cells AND a longer 70mm motor)
slipper clutch
several main gears to choose from
several pinions to choose from
all needed parts will be in the kits and all stuff is state of the art material:
carbon chassis, delrin main gear, steel pinion, alu motorholder/heatsink, all screws are niro stainless steel ones a.s.o.
a special 6th scale conversion for the ofna mbx/lx chassis will be available too.

the kits with a standart shaft (slipper is an option) will be around 240 euro, there will be several versions available for several cars.

hopfeully this cleared things a bit up.

see ya

Well I'm about to sell my p.o.s. 73 Nova 1:1 car so I will have some extra money. Keep us updated.
