Do you mean how they made a mould for it?.. It looks very meaty indeed, but the decals are a little simple for my liking.

it looks like they are finally using a three piece mold,

Nice! I think it is more "classy" than Lamborghini Countach IMO. By the way, where are those wheels from?

I think HPI's trying to make the trend on R/C body market like the old Kyosho "Nostalgic" ones. Hey HPI we need Ferrari 250 GTO, 330 P4, MGB MK1, Ford GT-40 (not the new GT), Corvette '67 Stingray, Porsche 906 Carerra, Shelby Daytona Coupe... etc. Oh... Aston Martin and Masareti if possible. :p

I'm thinking (hoping) that those were mock-up decals for the pictures. Paint is always an option. ;)

I think HPI should make Ferrari F40... if they can get the licence.

How about a Lotus Esprit for all the James Bond fans out there!! (Include submarine wheel covers as an option)

Hpi, Make this body and be the leader!! Nobody and I mean nobody has a Vector body, let alone even have an idea of what a Vector W8 even is!!

*sigh* now i'm thinking about the interior rigt out of a fighter jet :D omg that car ! I'd sell my sole for one of those to bad finding one in reality is not going to happen for even the amount that trump has.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I dont think anybody ever made a Pantera body either.

Oh yeah, the Vector. Cool car. Loved the fact that it was powered by a Chevy engine. Never really followed the development of the car after the new owners(a Malaysian company right?) took over.

There we go! The wheels match the car's generation.

vector is dead! the company went under, I don't recall them selling the company to anyone.

this body is sweet and the real car is sweet I've seen a few of them at car shows. But never have I seen a vector at a car show :D

and yes the rims match the year of the body. magnesium (mags) was all the craze. and those look like the style of mags that would have been used.

This is sicker than the countach, pure sickness, im buying this. Why did they do the pantera though? Seems like a more famous car would be the way to go, but this is way sicker.

This body is cool, But I'd take the countach over it any day. I'd rather have a lambo body, or vector body, or a Dmc deloreon body :D

HPI has my vote for the "Cheetah", Chevrolet's (unofficial) answer to the Cobra. I doubt HPI would have to pay royalties - if Bill Thomas is still alive (and I hope he is...), I'm sure he'd be proud to see it resurrected!

If HPI is planning on a Kyosho-style "Vintage" thing they should consider rear wheel drive only - I used to love to watch those cars powerslide at Bridgehampton and Lime Rock.

Speaking of the Vector. I saw one for the first time in person about a month ago at the Crystal Cove car cruise. Interesting to see. I was really impressed that the guy was driving it!

Yeah, I got it man. thx alot. I posted to that fast-autos.net also. those guys thought the w8 had a v12 LOL.

But either way. the pantera's a cool. I'm just not a ford fan. I like the styling and it ends there.

As for hpi and these bodies, I sure do hope to see more. that lambo body is mint. Cannonball run anyone :D

now a deloreon body and a few others would make me buy one of these cars just so I can buy the body and change the body every week at work, I'd keep the car on the shelf :D

Mine are 335/35/17's.

The original tires on the non-GT5 Pantera weren't nearly as impressive. They were 15's (diameter). The rears had a huge sidewall and were mounted on 8" wide rims. :) The front rims were 7". Not sure what the GT5's came with.

NotWalkinBlind
04-29-2005, 12:20 PM
Yeah, I knew they were 15s... they were probably similar in size to those on the DeTomaso Mangusta in post #21... I just wondered if you knew the crossection.

I prefer the look of the 15s on that car, but yours look pretty good... if I had a Pantera and was gonna upgrade, I'd probably just go to 16s.

What engine mods have you done... and how often do you drive it? Ever take it on trips?

NotWalkinBlind

BTW, that's a really nice red... what is it?

MacManInfi
04-29-2005, 10:24 PM
The engine is still a 351 Cleveland, though it's been gone through. Has a cam, roller rockers, some head work, intake, carb, headers. Just the basics really. I put it on the dyno about a year ago and it was making 338rwhp and 337rwtrq. I have a nice oil pan with baffles and windage tray on order so that it can actually see the track. The stock Cleveland pan doesn't work well with modern tires. All the oil swishes off to the side away from the pick-up.

Besides the motor, just about everthing else has been gone through...

I used to drive it two or three times a week. But a couple months ago we bought a 59 el camino that needs work and has been hogging the driveway so the Pantera can't get out. :P The elky is almost ready to rumble though, so soon I'll be able to get back into the Pantera.

No trips in the Pantera. It's got a heavy clutch like you wouldn't believe (on the list of things to fix) and I need more comfortable seats. The corbeau's that I have in it now aren't doing their job. :)

Thanks for the compliment on the color. It certainly sets it apart from most of the others. It's a copper-ish color that was only available in 1972. Not sure what the actual name of the color was.
