Do you any of you guys know if anyone makes flat black aerosol spray paint for a lexan body? I just found a that Tamiya is coming with the HKS Altezza that graced the cover of SuperStreet and I want to replicate the look. I dont want airbrush options because I dont know how to do that yet so please help.
O' and this body 200mm and not 187mm like usual Tamiya bodies. Thanks

Tamiya make a matt black in a rattle can.. you would need to spray the outside of the body (masking windows etc from the outside too) if you were to spray matt paint on the inside of a body it would still look gloss from the lexan.. matt black is a sweet look but i dont know how well the paint will hold in driving conditions if sprayed on the outside.. good luck with it tho..

Yeah the body has been out for at least 2 years now. I picked up a clear one on Ebay a few months back and I start liquid masking it for this months painting competition, should look awsome when its done. This body was avaliable in preprinted carbon (as was a Toyota MR-S JGTC car) and clear. It is a 190mm body.

Would you by chance have a link for that matte black in a rattle can? And is it for lexan or can any of those paints be used for lexan?

O' on towerhobbies it says the the body is 200mm in width so it should fit right? I know most of their bodies say between 182-187mm for their cars so this should fit my CD3..Hopefully Thanks though

well they dont make a matte black for lexan bodies but i think if you used a regular black with like a gun metal grey colour it would look more like the carbon fibre then just straight black.. you could even trying shooting a lexan black down first and then using a plastic matte black ontop of that..
i think you could get a better look spraying it by hand..
tamiya.com has all the part #'s

i think the pre painted carbon looks crap, they scale of the "flecks" isnt right, but hey thats just my opinion..

Why is Tamiya re-releasing a body that according to them didnt even sell well in the states?

This body started as an experiment for me. My brother in law trashed this body attempting to paint it. He was going to get rid of it so I took it. I tried stripping the paint but no luck, it was a real mess. So I masked both sides of the windows, and painted it inside and out with Krylon ultra flat. This way if I were to scratch any off of the outside it would still be black. The body got beat to death and the paint held up great. It did not flake off at all, it adhered very well to the lexan. I had nothing to lose, tried it, and it worked out really well.

OK, So I went to my hobby store and bought Tamiya Matte Black anyway and painted my Gallardo body on the outside since the body was already kinda messed up anyway. Anyway I like the way it came out, it was originaly competition orange. I was able to peel the stickers of so it looks alright for just messing around. I'll post a pic when I get home.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I painted both with Modelmasters Flat black on the outside. The Ford is all on the outside. The Dodge is flat on the outside with a glossy flame painted inside. Wheels are HPI Super Nitro's under 200mm bodies.

Looks really nice! So I guess you airbrushed right? You also said the body was 200mm and super size wheels..what kind of HPI is it? And if its not a super nitro are you able to run on those wheels?

But how durable is it? One hit and it's toast. Good for a static model, but not at all right for a shell you'll actually use.
