Ive been getting mixed messages about if a Rustler can be brushless or not. I have an electric rustler and am looking into getting a brushless motor for it. Will it work, if so what do I need to get for it to work? This is a good time to find out because brushless motor prices have dropped. :D

Thanks

Nick

I think you just have to beef up the tranny gears, mabey only the idler gear.

Yepp most probally only need the aluminum idler. I was running a basic 4200 on 12 cells, which is alot of power and weight, and my tranny never had a problem. Just just thick grease.

Alot of people like this grease since it makes you differentional alot stiffer: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFTY0&P=7

I stripped an *old* diff the other day. Then, after I replaced the stripped diff gear, I COMPLETELY shredded the *old* internal sun gears (inside the diff). The aluminum idler is good. I use a Feigao 12s and MGM 120amp (Jamie didn't have any 80amp versions) and I run 3s Lipo/12cells, and soon I will be getting a 4s Lipo pack that will be able to provide more power than 12 GP3300 cells for about the weight of 4-5 GP3300 cells.

Its like putting a silk hat on a pig. But ya, it can be done.

What grease were you using? I wonder if a aluminum chassie housing would fix this (just like I hear about the emaxxes)? I am surprised by how you stripped your gears but your setup is not that much more powerfull than the 4200 on 12 cells 700 watts to 1000 watts, right?

Thanks everyone. What motor do you recomend I get? I dont want to spend alot of money. how fast will the motor go with 14 cells in powering it? I want performance and speed. Thanks again everyone.

Bob - It was just some old Associated black grease. I don't pack the diff with thick stuff since I mainly drive on road with the occasional off road. I was having a problem with my slipper clutch where I would set it, and then it would tighten up completely on its own, so it's not surprising to me that the gears stripped. The 12s is quite a powerful motor, but I can't compare it to a 4200.

TraxMaxx - So you want to run 14 cells? The 12s can take 14, but would be better off with 12 for most of the time. And the 12s only costs $70:

Performance and speed will be unbelievable to you! The acceleration is incredible! Even if you had a setup that didn't go that fast, the acceleration would be so good that it wouldn't matter!
