Hey all,
I have an M18 and will be getting a RC18T Factory Team kit this week. I am definitely getting a Mamba to use in both vehicles. I will be using good quality 5 cell 2/3AA NIMH packs in the M18 and 6 cell 2/3AA NIMH packs in the RC18T. I do not want an 8000 but I'm stuck deciding between the 5400 and 6800 Mamba. I need to be able to dial the M18 down to run a 1/10th scale carpet track against fast mod brushed motors but still need the machine driveable to race. The RC18T will be run mostly as a basher but will see some carpet track and offroad 1/10th~1/8th scale track action. I want to make sure I have enough motor for some serious grin factor but I also want to have a driveable car and truck that won't grenade the driveline with every trigger pull. Which Mamba do I need? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

Castle's site states the 5400 is the best for racing, as it has a decent balance of runtime/power. But against "fast mod brushed motors'?? Probably won't do well with the cells you plan to use. I use the 8000 in my micro's and all the noise you hear about it being uncontrollable is hogwash, IMHO, although it's true that it CAN be hard on driveline parts if you don't practice any sort of throttle control.
That being said, I really don't have any hands on experience with the 5400 & 6800, although a friend of mine runs the 6800 in his m18 and it is very quick, and so far no broken parts.
Maybe the middle of the road approach is the way to go?

Thanks for the reply. I ended up going with the 6800 middle of the road setup. I figure I can dial it down if it's too wild and add cells or Lipo's to make it crazy if I feel the need.

Yea thats tricky, because they are 2 really different platforms. I own both the 18T and the M18 like yourself and had to make the same choice. I ended up with the 5400 and a 3 cell lipo.
Jamie at Starluck is taking 3+ weeks to ship and I'm pissed.
Anyway the 18T is geared quite tall, where the M18 is geared lower and weighs less. I figured the M18 would have loved the 8000 but the 18T would like the higher turn 5400. When it comes to bashing, offroad is where its at, so I've decided to hook up the 18T first. Someday the M18 with get the 8,000 mamba, but for now gets a speed 300 motor.

Have you talked to him about it?
The 5400 is the best, run it on 3s and its faster than it will ever need to go.

Yeah....that was a little uncalled for as I said that I was waiting on the battery pack from the distributor and kept you informed. Even drove 180 miles out of my way to drop by my house to get the package and ship while I was away on vacation. Glad you got it set up and are having fun with it.

Hey thats was my only rant man, other than that jamie did me right. To everyone reading, I recommend Jamie, the products were top notch and in perfect condition. But I also think its fair that I get to complain a bit.
