Mmmmmk. So I'm wondering if anyone here who has used the HV maxx system, has used an SS5800 on it. IF you have, please, tell me your results. I'm trying to see if I can trade in my SS ESC along with some extra money for an HV maxx ESC, and use that with the 5800. Novak says not such a good idea, but I wouldn't run 14.4 volts on it. That's asking for trouble. More like 8-10 cells to see what this motor/ESC combo can do. So anyone here try it, or know of someone who's tried it? :D

If Novak says it isn't a good idea, I wouldn't reccomend it as the limits the publisize are usually the true limits. Plus, if they won't back it, you could end up with $250 of wasted money and metal.

I think that you could use the motor with the ESC. I remember a thread about a guy who used 8 cells with the normal 5800 setup. Charlie from Novak essentially said that he didn't recommend it. But if it broke the repair costs for broken componets is much cheaper than buying a new setup. I think a new motor is 49 bucks

If you gear appropriately and watch out for extended periods of high current draw situations (like thick grass) I say you'll be ok. I know a lot of people are eager to buy the HV Maxx esc seperately.

Well, amp draw won't be a problem. Seeing as how the HV maxx is rated for something like 250 amps per phase (I think), and I think the 5800 draws a max of something like 60 amps give or take. So that's least of my concern. I know the 5800 motor runs hot, but hey, that's what heatsinks and moderate gearing are for lol! Plus replacement motors are only about 50-70 bucks. And i remember the 8 cells on the SS ESC, and the motor didn't blow, and I'm pretty sure the 5800 under load would be fine on 10 cells. The Kv is probably about 4300 under load so that times 12 volts is about 51600 under load. Within the limits of that motor I'd guess (assuming most motors have a 60k RPM limit). Publicized limits are usually overrated as well, so the manufacturer won't have to deal with people sending in their units time and time again. We'll see if I get a reply from Charlie back, and if he says he'll do it, then yay for me. If not, then o well. Thanks ya'll. ;) Guess we'll see what happens then.

There was a guy on here that ran 12 cells on his 5800 then fried it on thirteen. Im not sure what would "fry" on the motor though. I think you'd be fine with 8-10 cells. I had a 7S feigao 5000kv+ and it held up to several 10&12 cell runs.

Though Charlie will proabably say that "it is not reccomended." :p

I think it would be even better to try the ss4300 on 12-14 cells rather than the ss5800 on 10.

Probably be hella more powerful. If I want more power than the 5800, maybe i'll spend an extra 70 or so bucks and get the 4300 (if I do ever get a hold of an HV controller....:D) And I remember the dude who ran 12 and 13 cells. He used a schulze controller if I remember correctly. Hmmm.... Where's Charlie when I need him.....:D And tim, aren't we SUPPOSED to try to break things in bashing? :D warranty shmorrenty. Mine's up, so why not do it. lol!

This is what made me go against starlucks advice and run twelve cells on my motor. :p
I just wanted to see the face on my brother who is a big nitro fan when my truck wheelied at 30mph! Was hell on my diff though.

Hey Guys, Well, I'm sure it will work fine for a little while, just don't know how long it will last. It runs very well on 7 cells, but does get hot, you'll basically just get it hotter with more voltage. The hotter you get it, the more likely you'll damage the rotor. But hey, thats' replaceable right.... :)

And if it did "hand gernaded" the RMF fee is $30 if it's mostly salvagable. :)

So go for it and let us know... :)

And yes, it is not recommended, yada yada yada, I have to say that or else everyone says well the Novak guy said it was okay. Truth is most anything will work for a certain amount of time "beyond" what we recommend, how long just depends on the applications and the other 1000 variables that effect that sort of thing.

If your not concerned with warranty, have at it, it will work and be very fast for a little while at least......

Thanks
Charlie

Sorry for the delay, I was out of the office for the NHRSA hobby show.

No problem Charlie, I got your email today as well and read it. Thanks anyways!:) I just gotta get my grubby lil mitts on an HV maxx controller now...:D
