Due to the noise level of typical 1/5 and 1/6-scale cars, their use is often restricted or even forbidden at many public places. HARM Racing has developed a solution that takes advantage of the developing class of extremely powerful and efficient brushless motors - the EP-1.
The new EP-1 chassis features the same rugged suspension of the popular gas-powered cars, but it's optimized for use with a large brushless electric motor. It features double-deck construction with think aluminum upper and lower plates. The large chassis can accommodate battery packs of all sizes and types, giving the EP-1 extremely long run times if desired.
The low mounting positions of the battery packs and electric motor result in a much lower CG for the EP-1 compared to gas-powered 1/5-scale cars, creating the potential for much better handling with the EP-1 than is possible with the gas cars.
HARM also offers brushless motors and speed controllers that offer a range of performance that's suitable for beginners right up to expert racers. When equipped with one of the optional HARM brushless systems, the speed of the EP-1 can range from a controllable 30 mph to a blistering 55 mph.

Ugh, can you imagine the battery cost to do a nice lipo setup?? Wonder if the electric will do burnouts like the gas ones...

Here is where it all starts...nitro/gas is starting to take a back seat since "brushless." I went from Electric to Nitro now I might have to start over again. :(

I hope that this does not make a huge impact against the fuel powered version.

1/5th??? Lawd, why in the world anyone would think you had to spend that much money to have some R/C fun is beyond me.

Can you imagine how badly you could embarrass that thing with a 12th scale? Different strokes for different folks, I guess... looks to me as if the industry tries to create a new genre every few months.

Should we be looking for Traxxas to come out with a nitro Mini-Quake sometime soon?

I dunno... would you be surprised if they announced it in August?

I wouldn't.

I like it. This isn't the first electric 1/5 scale I've seen, but it's the first one that is widely available.

Oh...and yes, a 1/12 could kill this monster on a track, but who cares? This thing is awesome. Any word on pricing Steve?

That's all the info I have at the moment.

performula, I wouldn't be to concerned about Glow/Gas taking a back seat to E-power till the price/run time/performance ratio gets better for E-power, right now it is painfully expensive for motors, ESC's, and batteries for larger models.

I thought HARM was no longer distributed in the US i guess i was wrong.

Its funny that you guys think that 1/5th is some kind of new trend when people have been racing them for a looooong time, they are nothing new.

Yesssss! Get an F1 version and build a coupla ramps and see if you could go off one ramp, back flip it and land on all fours on the other ramp.

Riiiiiight...backflip an F1 car? Where did that come from?

And like I said before, who cars if a 1/12 scale could kill it. 1/12 scales are BORING. Ya, they're fast. Speed doesn't make it cool. Neither does the fact that it drives like it's on rails. They're too small and too low to go anywhere other than a prepared track, and there are hardly any tracks for them anymore.

1/5 is cool because of the sheer size, because they drive sooo much differently than everything else in r/c. No, they're not as fast, not as agile. That's part of what makes the experience. Quit knockin 'em NWB. If you keep going on and on about 1/12 being the king, people are going to start realizing how old you are...;)

APT racing in Ca. is the Distributor for Harm cars and has been the most steady of the 5th scale importers period. The money arguement about brushless and batterys is a joke.people just talkin to much. lets see 2 to 3,000 dollars hopped up t-maxxes 1/10th cars and engines and radios 750.00 to 1,000.00 electric 1/10 scale 200.00 to 450.00 touring cars, new gotta have battetry packs 50.00 to 90.00 dollars. the list goes on and on. It's just another venue to spend your money on in the wonderful world of R/C.

I don't see how anyone could find 12th scale boring, but if you do, maybe you could explain it to us.

1/12th is KINNNNNG... and yes, I'm probably older than most people here. Older doesn't mean my positions and opinions aren't valid.

It might mean I'm smart enough to not blow a large wad of dough on this monstrosity, however.

You think bigger is better? Sounds like a personal problem to me. Heh heh.

They can't. The Mini-Quake name is already taken by Duratrax :p
I'm sure you meant that Traxxas probably will come out with something like the Mini-Quake (thus the thhhbpt at the end of my statement).

Sometimes bigger is better, but then sometimes a car is just a car. Freudian references aside, I like both 1/18 and 1/5. I kinda like this new 1/5 though I think they should have laid down the steering servo and the battery placement looks a bit cumbersome to me.

I love 1/5 scale cars.... they may not be fast... but they handle like real cars and they look great on the track... the only drawback to this electric car is that runtime won't be anywhere as long as a gas-powered 1/5 scale.... those things run for like an hour on one tank of gas... and they start right away unlike glow/nitro engine cars... now mind you.. I'm not a fan of any particular RC size... I have more than 45 RC vehicles ranging from Digi-Q to TMAXX and REVO (25 of them are 1/18 or larger)... as well as several RC motorcycles, helis and planes... I like 1/12 for the speed and the on-rails handling.... I like 1/10 for the ability to race just about any track... I like 1/18 and smaller for the convenience, cool factor and technology... but you've gotta love 1/5 for the sheer realism... I just wish I had space to keep one or I'd have a gas-powered 1/5 myself

A 1/12th car will beat a 1/5th in a short straightaway or very tight track....but a 1/5th would dominate any 12th on a large prepped track like KZ Speedway.

Anyhow, imagine a 1/5th scale car trading paint with a little 1/12th....hahahaha...squashed bug in the middle of the road.

Not all 5th Scales are expensive .... I mean SVM and a couple of other companies have some reasonable prices for the budget buyer. The more popular they become in the states through the years the better the prices will become I promise. 5th scale is still too new here in the states I suspose ...

I have been into RC cars/trucks for 25 years, and 1/5 scale is my favorite scale to race, and run. If you have not run one yet I highly recomend it.

So where can I buy one of these in the US?
