Yes, i live in chesapeake, and i live about about a mile from the club lake, i run a gas sport hydro and a few fast electric boats, im not in the club, i do not run the race schedule, that is too much of a chore, im in this hobby for the fun, i run at the lake a few times a week in the afternoons and on some weekends if there is not too many people out there.

Sometimes i do run my electrics at Mt.Trashmore, but it can be too crowded, 3 to 4 people on same channel, have to wait for the pin to run, i mostly run my boats at the chesapeake lake, if you have never run there , you must come over there, you dont have to be in the club to run there, it has a good set up it will spoil you to to run anywhere else, some of those park lakes wont let you us a raft to retreave you boat if you cant get it with your fishing rod.

On Lake Windsor I have been the ONLY person there for the longest. No electrics, no waiting for a channel. Last year I raced with the Chesapeake club. I came in third overall for the entire season, in class of course.

Things aren't always what they seem, unfortunately. The Indian River High School Lake ("Chesapeake Lake") actually belongs to the Chesapeake City School Board and is POSTED as No Trespassing. No fishing, no hanging out, no boating. Old Dominion Model Boat Association (ODMBA) went to the school board many years ago with hat in one hand and the IMPBA insurance certificate in the other and got sole permission to use the lake. This ritual is repeated each year, and permission continues to be granted, so long as everything goes OK. Meaning generally that we behave, keep the property in good order, and that nobody gets hurt. And permission was granted only to ODMBA members. The local police have been known to come by when we are there and ask to see our permission letter.... So, non-ODMBA members use it at the risk of arrest for trespassing. This is not necessarily ODMBA's policy, it's the school board and the city.
As the safety officer of ODMBA, I feel that I need to take this opportunity to ask something of any and all, members and non-members alike, who use the pond. First of all, don't go alone. Three is a safe number, or two and a cell phone. Second, know and follow the IMPBA safety rules. Third, buy and use a good zip-up life jacket any time you go onto the water to retrieve. Not one of those cheap horse collars, a zip-up life jacket. No exceptions for self-proclaimed "strong swimmers", etc. If you snag a sharp prop on the side of that raft when you drag your model boat in, that raft will be flotsam before you know what happened. Same problem if you flip a canoe or kayak. Fourth, no alcohol or drugs on school property. Fifth, clean up after yourself and pick up some of what someone else left behind as well. Sixth, if you're not a member and anyone from the school or the city asks you to leave, for pete's sake, just do it; don't give them a hard time. Any serious injuries, substance problems, or other headaches on that lake property and ODMBA will be looking for a new place... which would make several guys very angry.
By the way, we have a separate class this year for gas sport hydros as defined in IMPBA rules. Come on out and give it a go. The class is small enough right now to give you plenty of room to move around. New racers are always welcome.
Thanks - Mike Tyson, Safety Officer, ODMBA

Hello,
My name is Jason and my wife and I live right near Mt Trashmore. I was into nitro RC boats a few years ago and am looking to get back into it since i live so close ot Mt Trashmore.
Can you run nitros on the big lake or do you have to run them on the smaller lake? Acording to VA parks and rec, the smaller lake (Windsor) is brackish water and the large lake is freshwater. I know aluminum and salt water don't get along very well.
IS the RC boating season pretty much over till next year, or will you guys be making some more trips to MT T? Let me know, I would like to get out and watch.
Thanks for your time.
-Jason
