I finally got her out today .The boat runs great .My only question is I am getting temps around 115 to 125 .I am using a infared temp gauge like the duratrax model .I have been running it with the top off so I guess it will run a little cooler and I have been running low to mid throttle thru the tanks due to I am running in a small pond .I just had the engine modded and the hsn is running about 3turns .My old 16 ran about 2-2.5 turns .This new motor wants more fuel.I also have an larger cooling head but I wouldnt think that it would run these low temps.Should I take the xtra large cooling head off and put the stock one on?.I am going out sun and run in the HUGE pond to open her up .I had my stadium truck out today and the temps were running 225-250 .Maybe boats dont run that hot .

OK, you didn't say what the boat is but I'm guessing here. Is it a CEN Racing boat? If it is, they really don't need the large cooling head in my opinion. Mine ran fine with the stock head. small motors, under .21's, really don't need a lot of cooling. It could be that the water in the pond is cold yet also. I go through this every spring with my local practice pond, my boats don't like cold water and it shows in their performance. The water is deep for a small pond and with it adjoining a river doesn't help to warm it either.

I picked up the 18 engine from a guy on these message boards and it had the larger cooling head .I ran it today and the temps were running 150 with the hatch on .It was warmer today also ,75 degrees.

I am going to put the stock cooling head back on .That will bring up the temps alittle .

Hey WD, sounds like the motor is working out for you! Remember that the engine was barely used, maybe run 4 times for a total of 30 minutes , she may need a little time to break in . But I agree with Ron, I have heard from a couple of sources that the larger head is not needed...but it does look cool!!
