From Tamiya's "coming soon" file...

Responding to customer demand for a rally car R/C kit capable of driving off-road, Tamiya releases the Rally of Great Britain version of the 2004 Subaru Impreza on the easy to use TL- 01RA chassis. Chassis is simple to assemble and features easy and reliable control, making it highly recommended for R/C beginners.

About the 2004 Subaru Impreza
The 2004 Impreza features loads of improvements over the 2003 model, including to the body, engine, suspension and aerodynamic design. The rear wing has been redesigned for improved aerodynamic performance, and the flat horizontally opposed engine has been refined for more power. The Impreza performed well in the 2004 WRC, with an especially dominating display on the gravel and rough tracks of New Zealand, Greece, Japan and Italy. Driver Petter Solberg’s electrifying win at the Rally of Great Britain in Wales marked his third consecutive Rally of GB win.

About the Model
Fully finished and painted polycarbonate body of the Rally of Great Britain 2004 Subaru Impreza on the easy to assemble TL-01RA chassis.
Chassis features shaft driven full-time 4WD system combined with 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension with long span arms.

This isn't the first time Tamiya's put knobbies on a short-arm TL-01 chassis. Remember the Stadium Raider? (picture lifted from www.towerhobbies.com)

Of course, a long-arm TL-01 is known as the TL-01B (as in Buggy), chassis of choice for this favorite:

Is this a first for Tamiya or what? Putting wheels on a vehicle that don't match it's body I mean. Also, is that Subaru as wide as a Baja Champ?

Will parts for the Baja King and Baja Champ fit the Twin Detonator? Thanks

The Subaru should have standard TL-01 arms, like the Stadium Raider. I say "should," because for all I know Tamiya has a new mid-length arm. I doubt it, but you never know.

The Twin Detonator shares its gearboxes with the Wild Dagger, Blackfoot Extreme, and Wild Willy 2000. It also shares its clamshell chassis with the Blackfoot and Dagger. It doesn't use any TL-01 stuff, but all the wheels are interchangeable since they all use 14mm hexes.

No, this isn't a first for Tamiya: Years ago they sold the Audi Quattro, Opel Ascona, and Lancia 037 on 2WD off-road chassis (Wild Willy and Frog) with large out-of-scale tires.

Oh ok on Tamiya's website just below the TYwin Detonator it says (TL01/TL01B Twin Motor) that's why I was wondering thanks again.

Hmm, I dunno...
It works, in a pinch, big wheels and a tough chassis. A good entry level rally car, something that's not already available. No doubt it'll help Tamiya move a few more TL01 chassis. I'm guessing we'll also see this body on a TT01 or XBG soon also?
I think I may have found a use for the TL sitting on my shelf for the last year. Or my Mini... :)
