As the title says it all, here's the theme: Characters!
We've had some great paint jobs done in the past few months and some of the folks have expressed some interest.
Here's the rules:
1. The main graphic must include a character. This character can be a head, a full body, etc.
2. The character can be a caricature, superhero, My Little Pony, Woody Wood Pecker, or even a portrait, just as long as it's a character.
3. All entries would automatically be included in the end of month competition.
4. I'll select an impartial judge for the competition.
5. Four pictures allowed per entry. Of these, at least one must be a pre-painted pic (no paint on it yet). The pre-painted pic can be of the body prepped for paint, but can have no paint on the shell and must be of the body to be painted. Failure to provide this pic will result in disqualification. Note: Providing a pre-painted pic of a Mazda 6 body and a painted body of a Stratus body will result in disqualification.
6. Paint will be graded upon the same criterion as the monthly paint competitions.
7. Only one entry per person.
8. All entries must be posted by Friday, 24 Jun 05. Judging will be completed by Tuesday, 28 Jun 05.
Do we still have interest? If you wish to enter, please post in this thread so we know who will enter.
Once the competition begins, late entries will be accepted but have one point deducted from their final score.
Who's in?

Four pictures allowed per entry. Of these, at least one must be a pre-painted pic (no paint on it yet). What's the reasoning for the unpainted body picture being required? It's not much of a counter-cheating measure, if that's what it's for - I, as I'm sure most painters do, have a stockpile of identical unpainted bodies. I'm not saying that I'd cheat if I enter the competition, but that rule definitely wouldn't stop it.
Once the competition begins, late entries will be accepted but have one point deducted from their final score.By this, do you mean entries after the 24th?
I don't think I'd be ready to enter such an advanced paint competition just yet, since until last weekend it'd been 3 years since the last time I'd done any airbrushing (yeah, and I still have the pile of unpainted bodies, hah).. but it's definitely something I'll be thinking about! My girlfriend is an artist, so maybe she'll have a try.. I've been looking for something to use to convince her of giving RC bodies a go. :)

Nutter, that is partly the reason for the unpainted body. Granted, there are some painters that do this for money and have a stock pile of bodies. Typically, those aren't the folks were concerned about. They usually crank out 2-3 bodies a week. This is designed for the occasional painter and adds some credibility to their work.
Once the competition begins late entries will be allowed with a one point deduction to their score. Once the judge has ruled, there wouldn't be a point for someone to enter a body.
This post is designed more for determining the amount of interest in doing this comp. If there isn't enough interest, there won't be a mini-comp and instead, we'll just have the monthly comp.
Nutter, get off your butt and paint with your girlfriend....have that whole "Ghost" moment together. :D :D
I want to enter.
Thanks,
-Seb

Holy dog doo! We're gonna have Charlie, Seb and Boston in this one (if Charlie does one just for this contest). Dang. I just got chills down my back.
Charlie: What is the clown one from? Fantastic 3D work on that one! I think it would make a great CD cover for the band Dangerous Toys.

so, we have Respirology, Seb, AirBoston, and 3tc Graphx (good to see you back here Andre).
Charlie, you intend to enter and knock our socks off (as usual)? Come on man...you've been working over at that "other site" for too long, you need to come back here and wow us some more. Heck, even Cosmo has come out of retirement to paint a body for a previous comp!
Phil...you entering this one?
Anyone else? There's gotta be a few more folks who want a piece of this. I'll start the contest on Tuesday, 24 May 2005. Hopefully we'll have a few more great painters join in.

Great work, 3tc GraphX! I remember the Yosemite Sam one, but hadn't seen the other two. I really like how you did the headlamps on the Sonic one. I've never seen one done like that - pretty darned cool (and quite bright too). Obviously you draw very well too. The outlines for the Sonic character (on the outside of the body) look like they were done without any goofs whatsoever. That would take me forever to do, much less cut masking and paint. Oof.

Ya know, I 'm still not sure why people (like Ms. Kitty here) keep putting me in the class with Charlie, Haunted myst, Seb, rcaddict, etc. These people are in a league of their own. It's nice to be associated with them, but my work doesn't hold a candle to the art they put out. I just hope not to make a fool of myself with this one. I've never done character work; could be fun.

All right! Looks like we got ourselves a contest! Phil's in, so Charlie, that means you gotta enter too.
Boston: You're just too humble for your own good. Ask Piggy about my knack for noticing details that others may not notice. I still think of your work as being top notch no matter what you say. A lot of you guys have your own styles and that's what I like most. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your admiration for the work done by other painters, but go easy on critiquing your own work. I understand, believe me. I'm by far my own worst critic.
That said, I hope that hits home for some of the other painters. It doesn't matter if your work would fetch top dollar on eBay. It doesn't matter if your work "isn't as good" as what the pros do. It's moveable artwork and something to be proud of.
I seriously doubt that I'll ever be able to do work on par with stuff like, for example, that shark body one of the guys did. Geez, I'm embarrassed that I forgot his name. Long day. Same goes for stuff like the skull and flames job posted recently. That's not just me being self critical. That's reality. Still, that won't stop me from attempting to do my own style and trying to enjoy bashing the hell out of whatever I end up painting. As the saying goes, "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like." It's what you like that counts. =)

Wow after that rant I think I'm going to have to get off my butt and paint something just for the heck of it.
If it's not too late i'd like to enter as well. now to go get a body worthy of me painting.
and Charlie I expect you'll be entering this lil comp I'd love to enter with one of the guys that got to pick up an airbrush in the first place. I know I wont win but just to know I put my best effort up against one of the greats is good enough for me. (nudge, Nudge)

just a quick sample.
Doug Summers was the artist from RCBODZ
This is what I commissioned.
seems to fit the theme :)
I have him working on another themed body. Should be ready soon.
This isn't an entry just a sample :) (as I didn't paint it)
