Triangle Radio control Racing Auto Club
A new club is being planned in Durham to promote and run RC races in the Triangle area. This club would be based at RC Speedway with the posibility of haveing a few promotional races at other locations. Initial plans are to have racing every other Sunday throughout the summer racing season. We will run by ROAR rules and plan on running electric and nitro Touring to start, with the possibility open for other onroad classes and offroad racing if the interest is there. We will have AMB lapcounting, powered pit spaces, and there is on site food.

We are looking for charter members at this time. If you are interested please PM me tarheelquality, jtn, axrayed1, or NcSpeedRacer.

Glade your going to come and do some racing. want to get the track back up to a place that you'll tell your friends about and get them to go race at.
Hopefully we will have race dates set by the end of the coming weekend.

hey guys went to the dirt oval regionals sunday and of course Thomas was TQ but a strange thing happened HE DID'NT WIN!!! for once he did not win a race hehe... Ne ways the late modal (touring) cars are fun to watch and look to be a blast to drive. Enter the turn with the wheels turned to the left and exit with the wheels turned to the right. drift halfway down the straight and get the car straighten just in time to do the slide again.

The 29th is fine so count me in with a nitro and maybe even elcetric. Just wondering how much entery will be and what about payout if any??

We are going to have a work day / meeting / practice saturday for all the people that wants to be in the club.
We have a lot of work to do and deside on what to do with things like the dirt track.
We also need to see who all wants to be in the club so we know were we stand.
If you want to be a part of The RC speedway and TRRAC and can't make it just let us know.
thank you Mark

if i wasn't working 10-7 on saturday i'd be out there. I am not going out on the 29th, its the Indy 500, a tradition in my Indiana family (!) But any other sunday count me IN! I really want to be involved in this club. I should be out sometime this week, I can come out Thursday afternoon and play around and get some work done if anybody else will be there. I got a cordless drill finally too for a graduation present. I still have not driven my tc4 on the new layout. Still need a good ESC but I have one that works fine and won't cut off so it will have to do me for a while.

Thanks. I am glad to see our track getting on the right foot now. Every other Sunday will be great. I just need to know the first day that it will start so i can pass the word out and get people in the correct rotation to go out there.

I won't be investing too much into r/c until i do find my "career" job, I just applied to about 5 places today, so hopefully I will get some news soon. I am not picking up anymore hours at Sears than I had when I was in school, so no more income yet. I would like to buy a real car too- no a/c in the GEO and I might be driving around this summer to visit various r/c tracks in the area!

Dale ACC doesnt offer the finale class i need to graduate during the summer, however DTCC does and i'm ready to get out of college and not have to wait 2 somesters to do it. I wish ACC did offer the class cause i enjoyed getting up at 7:45 and be in class at 8:00. but oh well least DTCC aint as crowded as ACC, there's a total of 6 people in my class.

Rally what is Rally?? is that were you treat your Nitro TC3 like a Gt?? go ahead and have at it, and hpoe those small shocks dont blow apart. The dirt track needs one of two things either remove the track or add more dirt to whats there, the drainage pipe is starting to show in the middle of the track. Or we could start a gardening club and plants some grass and weeds :) Brian would be good at gardening He's already a pansy.

but just think we could be sponcered by enviromental orgs that would support our cleaner air ways of racing by allowing the plants to go and produce fresh air, and it would also help the ozone layer and global warming. So what if there's 10 or more smoke producing 2 stroke modors (<---you happy now brian) less then 3 feet away. I'm trying to think out side the box here.

I agree....let's see what's under all that dirt...anyone need free "topsoil"?

tarheelquality
05-18-2005, 11:45 PM
I think that there is someone that will take it. Biggest problem will be cleaning the pavement afterward. Of course this all depends on what the club decides before we can do anything.

tarheelquality
05-18-2005, 11:47 PM
Without the dirt we could bring the bleachers back over, use the timing loop that is in the pavement, put a few more turns in the layout, and maybe get the track big enough to attract some 1/8th guys.

baddtwodeebone
05-19-2005, 06:27 AM
Yeah! The old setup (B4 dirt) was a good one! The guys with super-low winds loved that long straight too, and yeah...it would be long enough again for 1/8 scalers. Sounds like something we need to talk about as a group to see if a majority are in agreement.

jtn
05-19-2005, 08:15 AM
I think if it is decided to remove it, we will come up with a way to clean up the pavement. We could have it out within about 2 weeks.

dbracin
05-19-2005, 08:39 AM
Lose the dirt and just have all the asphalt, weather you use it or not. There are so many offroad tracks in NC right now that I doubt a small one in Durham would have many "racers" even show up.

They are also willing to help promote the track and possibly sponsor some races and the track. They want us to get this rolling so they can come check it out and if it seems first class wich I am sure it will be, they want to come aboard and be a part of whats going on. Also they gave me some prime space on their bulletin board. I am excited because I think this is gonna turn out even better than we expected. WoooooooHoooooooo. Billy

You remove the dirt, be careful you don't "dig" to hard or you may mess up the tar underneath. I would suggest only flat, square edged shovels for use here. No pick axes or things like that. And no, I don't have a bobcat anymore.

Yeah, I have only had one person that was interested in runnng on the dirt contact me.

If everyone is wanting to go so fast...why want any of you run Mod.???

I mean at Rosewood the Stk. electrics lap times are just as fast as the gas. So Mod. will give you that "speed" that you only see on the straight.

tarheelquality
05-19-2005, 11:24 PM
I am still getting my stuff together in stock, right now nitro would probably be more fun than racing, also I have 3 stock motors and the only mod I have is a 6 turn hich would be fine if I was trying to run with the nitro guys.

Ha yall - check out the new maps on the website and let me know what ya think. I also took out some more junk and changed navigation bar a little. I should have it straight in a week or so. On the 29th I hope to get a bunch of new pictures to put up.

I need some setup suggestions - I thought the car was good in practice but I was getting smoked through the turns last week at the wood during the races. I think I need more grip on the front. Maybe Mark or John can drive it around tomorow and offer some pointers. I can't have my son outrunning me. That's just not cool. :D

I disagree! You just have to spent the money in the right place... And you don't have to take out a second mortgage to be fast. Just shop around and buy the BEST YOU can afford.

Ron I know you see it.....

I can name a few ppl at Rosewood who are throwing money at anything and everything and still can't get around the track. I have ppl buy different kits every few weeks and motors and Batteries every couple of weeks and still haven't improved......

The best thing anyone can do is FREE......... PRACTICE!!!!!!

npresme
05-20-2005, 05:07 PM
But with the practice make it a quality practice. Try changing things on the car to see how this change works or what that change did.

Don't go out there with your buddy and beat each other in the pipes, try to run each other clean, practice passing CLEAN and running close to each other without taking one another out.

That is far more important than having a 7 turn and 1.19 batteries that you spent $200 on.

the NTC3 will be for the dirt but i'm going to use it for some on-road racing to. Dale's going to run it on the 29th with us. plus if the serpent happens to let me down then i'll still have another nitro i can run. I put the moder from i was running in the serpent into the ntc3 and that thing huals, but if it's cool with you mark i'd like to use your setup board on sat and get everything even on the car, just driving it up and down the street showed that it was out of tweek.

does anyone have a FM receiver that they would like to sell, mine fried yesterday and I dont have a back up. I can still run but I'm having to use the stock radio that came with the GT, and it's not the best in the world.

NE ways i'll have a electric drill and sawz-all at durham tomorrow ready to work and get that place up to order. HEHE i'm excited that a track close to home is making a come back. :)

Ha yall - check out the new maps on the website and let me know what ya think.:D

I checked out the map and I think it's wrong. The track is on the access road that runs beside Hwy 70. That map has the track on the wrong street.

NCSpeedRacer
05-20-2005, 08:07 PM
dbracin - the main entrance to the track is actually on Hoover Rd.

I'd have to agree with Anthony on the practice thing. Practice is the one thing that helped me more than any setup change. The thing is - I think I can go faster. I just need the car to cooperate with me a little better. I've changed some things and the car has gotten faster. Just need it a little faster entering turns to keep from getting passed . If I slow down enough to cut the turn tight I usually get rear ended.

nomac
05-20-2005, 08:28 PM
cheer..you always seem to practice well. your lines are clean and respectable. it's just something about that rush you get when it's time for the show. just try and relax...and remember, preperation is key. anything that can go wrong will. sometimes time catches up with us before the main, but if you can stay a step or two ahead of the clock...you'll see some KILLER results in the show.

This may have been asked earlier, if so I apologize.

How will the club "dues" work? Is this an upfront fee to be a club member, and then there is no charge for "club" races, OR is there an upfront fee and entry fees for each bi-weekly race.

Brandon

Up front anual fee then club members have a reduced entry fee is how we are planning it now. Of course once the club is going everyone has a vote that joins.

BTW anyone that wants to join that has not contacted me directly please do so, I have been getting information from Mark and John about other people that are interested but I do not have contacts for everyone and I would really like to have emails for everyone interested so that I can keep everyone updated.

I have my miniT and my Tmaxx in the car right now... shipping them off tomorrow on a trade for a Savage. I have the MGT for handling and durability and getting a Savage for air time!! haha

I pulled out the book for my NTC3 today, time to mount up some servos. I just wanted to ask what kind of enging you guys usually run in the 1/10th scale TCs?? It has the stock .12 in it, but i was thinking about getting a 2 speed module and a faster engine and pipe for it. (along with a starter box).

What are the rules for engines, tires, and bodies??
Also, what kind of transponder should I order?? I want to get one that I can use in my trucks as well if I ever get to race them.

thanks,

You need the standard AMB personal transponder, with one of those you should be able to race just about anywhere. As for rules we are going by roar rules check hereRoar (http://www.roarracing.org/pdfs/2005rules3.21.05.pdf)

To much overhead and poor attendance of the slot races have done the racing program and Jack in. What does that have to do with this forum you might ask. Jack has asked me to make some of you who have supported him and The Race Factory aware of what he has left at some good prices.

Alot of Mini-T parts, a good selection of them are aluminum, a large amount of Mini-T bodies and a very few parts for other RC cars also. All at 25 to 50% off. Also has two of The Mamba Brushless setups for the Mini-T at a very good price. Here is a list of the new RC RTRs he still has:

All new
1 Stadium Maxx Nitro
3 Mini-T Pros
1 Micro RS4
5 Mini-Zs
1 Losi XXXs

1 Calandra Carpet Knife Ver 3.1 KIT

And 1 Used Savage nitro also at a good price

Several bottles of break-in fuel and several new nitro bottles.

Like I said I am sorry to see Jack close but we wanted you who have supported him to get the first shot and getting things at a good price before it goes on ePay. call Jack at 919-460-8797 if you have any questions about anything. Leave a message if you get the machine or send me an email if you can't get him and I will find out what is up.

Thanks for looking and hope to see you Sunday at TRRAC.

That sucks. I know indoor carpet tracks are hard to keep during spring/summer periods. But I thought the slots was his main thing to keep him goin. It was a very nice and clean place too. Sorry to hear that. I was hoping to get back out there when work slowed down here.

Anyways, speaking of work.... I have to work Sunday... again... I see Tom said racing will start at 2pm? I may try to make it out there after work just to watch the mains if I can. If not.. oh well hehe.. Someone take plenty of pictures for me.

Well hope to make it out there sometime. Go race and have fun!!!

Well, got home tonight and was told the water pump on the old farts car went out, so guesswho got tapped to fix it? Hopefully I'll get it done in the morning and still have enough time to get out there. TC4 ran pretty good today at the Wood. I hope it does as good out here like my old TC3 used too.

Hey guys.

I did some bodies for this kid for free. He said he was looking for a sponsor and was a webmaster at r c x o t i c , blah, blah, blah.....

whatever...

Anyway, he is selling the bodies I painted here (http://rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=73546) $40 each

The one green one is in this month's paint contest in this forum and is also on my homepage. I don't know about the handling characteristics, but they are definitely different. You guys goin' up to NJ can enter it in the Concourse :D

I had a problem with my car. It was not ready for racing this morning. After doing some work to the servo horns, and setting up the new radio.. all is well.
I will be test driving it today, and I will DEFINATELY be there next time.

Hey,
Had a great time for the short while I was there and I didn't even race! Great bunch of guys there and while not a huge turnout it was pretty good for a first race and on a holiday weekend. See everyone there in 2 weeks, sounds like there will be a big nitro turnout lets make sure electric is well represented too.

Just Wanted to thank everyone who came out for our first race of the season. There was some very close racing in both Nitro and Electric. We had a few small issues with the lap count computer but thats to be expected untill we get it all figured out. We should have everything running smooth by the next race. It looks like TRRAC is off to good start for 2005.

had fun today even though i didnt get to run very many laps :). one exhaust pipe and two servos i gave up and packed my stuff, just wasnt my day i guess. but its okay cause stevens day was still worse. oh well congrats to all the winners. brandon was fast like always in stock and mark was on rails in nitro all day long. honestly the most consistent i have seen him be. :) good run man. justin did a good job on the puter for the first time out. billy thanks for posting the results so quickly. all in all not a good day for me personally but a good start for the TRRAC club. I will be selling my JR XS3 radio if anyone is interested, have 2 of the synthesized receivers. If anyone locally is interested let me know soon or its going on ebay. also if anyone is interested in a 12th scale that is also going on ebay soon. possibly the ntc3 too minus all of marks parts haha. im thinking of getting a new one.

had a great time this sunday. mark...thanx for the 'ponder rental. sees now i gotta get another one if i'm to be racing back home again. :D
my modar man was m.i.a. again, so stephen stepped up to the plate. (hey benesh...the MVP didn't run as crappy as you'd promise..LOL). had the car handled better, i would have probably cracked the top 3. but will, rod, and brandon were absolute bullets!!!
hard to beleive it was the same will who hardly got around the track last year without wreckin! good job!! but i plan to get more practice time and R&D. need to see what the latest trix are for the chassis's. from the looks of things...seems like the HPI big guns swaped out for thinner chassiss. but we'll see. push come to shove...i'll just bring out the 'ole trusty TC3. THEN things will get interesting! ;)

If that's the biggest computer problem you had, consider it a success. I have seen larger races with experienced staff have alot worse problems, I don't think it bothered anyone there.

Had a great time seeing everyone and racing. It is a great track for side by side racing, as Rod and Reggie proved, awesome race guys, it had to be a blast, it was to watch anyway, lol.

Great job to justin on the scoring, awesome first day. I will see everyone in 6 weeks, I will be racing in NJ next time, and then the weekend after that is my wedding  . Take care.

I went out there today for a bit to race around my RS4 3SS and had nothing but problems with it. Broke a C-Hub, nuts on the wheels wouldn't stay on at all, bent a dog-bone, and then broke another C-hub. And i didn't even hit anything! Well the course layout sure is nice and I hope that I can make out to a race one day or meet some of you all. Its been busy for me moving and doing wedding stuff.

Sorry, like i thought, the family thing reared it's ugly head so I ended up staying around the house all day.

It's ok Ron. Just make it out to race with us next time. I think I got the software under control now.

FYI - Beginning with our next race and every race afterwards we will be randomly setting up the heats, and then there will be a Re-Sort for the 3rd round.

Glad everyone had a good time. I will pass the compliments on to Justin and Jeri. Hopefully we can find a PA system for us soon too.
See everyone on the 12th. Mark and I are heading south this weekend.

Mark, thanks again. Had a great time.

What kind of transponder do I need to get?? I found one on Tower for 49 bucks from Team Orion.

Do they take some kindof crystal.. or do they relay your frequency for distiguishing your vehicle?? I know nothing about them.

thanks,

You have to have an AMB personal transponder. The Orion one will not work. Here is a link with a pic of what you will need.

Just to let you know. I was looking at the AMB web site and the transponders cost $89 plus shipping new. Just so you want spend to much on ePay. Here is the web site address if you want to look at them,

Hope it helps.

I think you can also pick them up at some local shops. Thunder Alley in Wilson carries them for $89 and I think Glenn carries them at Rosewood for around the same price.
