Performance wise you'll probably go faster with the RWD, once you get the handle on it, but the FWD is fun to drive too. I have the M-03 and like it, and will get an M-04 soon just for the heck of it. Geared the same, the M-04 would be just as fast because it has basically the same efficient gearbox (Both would have a faster top speed than a similarly geared 4WD because of the greater drag in a 4WD).

How is the M-chassis class for entrants up there?

The mini class in Canada is a very popular . Both FWD and RWD minis are capable of being very fast. The FWD is slightly more popular in the GTA but there are also a number or RWD minis. I personally have both an M-03L and a M-04m and think that they can both be set up to be very quick. The front wheel drive has a slightly higher centre of gravity than the RWD. This sometimes causes it to traction roll in turns. Also, the acceleration from a stand still is slightly slower than compared to a RWD mini. However, the FWD is easier to set up and even if the chassis is slightly tweaked, it will still drive quite normally also, it would be easier to drive than the RWD mini on low traction surfaces. With the RWD mini, I would say that its overall potential is slightly higher than a FWD mini. Acceleration is slightly better and it also has a lower centre gravity, however, traction rolling is not unheard of. The RWD can be harder to setup and every little change can make a big difference on the handling of the car. However, the RWD may be harder to drive on low traction surfaces. So in my opinion, both cars are very capable and it is really just your opinion as to which one you want to get, even thought eventually you will want to get both :D

We started a FWD class here at Indy Slots. M-03 chassis familly only [no RWD, No 4WD, no removal of belts to make 4wd into FWD]. kit motors, and any other mods you wish. EXTREMELY compeditive. EXTREMELY FUN! :D
