I was reluctant to put this under these titles, but couldn't find any other more related area.

I have a Kyosho Lisa Surfer, and wicked it is too, but the ones they show in the Vids are seriously hopped up (but thats another story) it comes assembled with RC gear, which is Kyosho's own Perfex set, I was hoping to purchase a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) to do away with the Reciever Battery, but not loose Control when the main battery gets low, having been told (which I'm not sure I believe) by local (crappie) model shop the Reciever will already work direct off the main battery "As all Recievers can work this way" surely I'm not that old and out of it? anyone know better? or where I can get a BEC (I'm from the UK, but have bought a lot direct from Japan) I'd apreciate anyones help!!!

Is your speed control mechanical? If so, then you have no BEC for sure. If your speed control is electronic, you might have BEC. A BEC equiped reciever will "pull" power from the speed control to run itself and the steering servo. Unplug the reciever pack and see if it all still works. I have a Futaba BEC reciever that will work with or w/o a reciever pack..

Hi, I think you may have misunderstood me, from what I can gather some recievers have BEC capabilities (this has nothing to do with ESC or Mechanical Speed control), as far as I am aware almost all ESC's have BEC builtin, but in the olden days you would replace your Reciever Switch and 4 cell battery case with a BEC, all the BEC does is deal with the voltage drop between 7.2v and 6v, and if its clever cut the 7.2 before there nothing left for the reciever/servo saving your car/boat/plane from ruiing off into the distance (this is how my Tamiya Ford Ranger commited suicide under a lorry many moons ago). I used to have a Glider (powered), and my Futaba reciever had BEC built in, but the Kyosho Perfex reciever has very little written on it, so I was hoping someone had more info than me on it.

Thanks for the reply, the speed control is actually a servo, that just pushes a micro switch, so I may just try to get a cheap ESC, but I was concerned about heat as its in a water tight box.

If it has the BEC built in, there will be the little oval with the BEC logo. Back in the old days before the BEC's, we'd use a dropping diode off the main battery pack to power the reciever. Another way is to use a "Y" harness to one of the servos to get the power.
BEC is actually a registered trademark so no one can use it without paying for its use but companies can make their own version.
Most BEC's regulate the voltage going to the servos at 5, 5.5 or 6 volts no matter if you have more voltage than that going into them to an extent. Some can not take more than so many volts, that is when you need to use a 4 or 5-cell RX pack.

Hey,

Sorry I misunderstood... but I did learn something! Thanks for the info!
