Team Green bodywork duplicates Kawasaki’s V-twin-powered V-Force 700, but it’s 100% Savage stuff under the factory-painted rider’s butt. That means you get the usual HPI monster truck goodness: 8 mega-travel shocks, .25 power, 2-speed tranny, TVP chassis, and more.
Item no. and price info to be announced.

By far the coolest thing at RCX, it was a blast to see it on the demo track!

So does that change the scale? Its like a 5th scale quad now.

ok now this is getting cool. I would like one for the emaxx, to have people saying "wow look at that!"

I bet there is a linkage that connects the handlebars to the steering servo; so that when the truck steers one way the rider will also

I dunno, that rider looks solid to me. I don't see any joints to allow for movement.

The rider is from the Radio Shack Ricky Carmichael dirt bike. The scale would be closer to 1/4-1/3. The rider is fully articulated.

Thanks for posting that "video" Kmot, LOL. The HPI guys told me they hand-painted the rider for the show (and noted the production version would be factory-painted) but didn't reveal its Ricky roots. Are you sure?

It does look pretty wild. I can't to hear about racing them on monster truck tracks. They may come out with different colors and other makes of Quads. But if they roll will the figure break? cause you know they will jump him like crazy :p

It looks like the figure will pop off if you do roll it or flip it. These Quad 'bodies' look neat but don't expect them to handle much abuse.

So this is what it would look like if Radio Shack married HPI ...

PeterV

I think it's going to be an RTR. Any HPI guys wanna chime in? Why didn't I get the answer while I was at RCX? Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Kmot
05-25-2005, 01:07 AM
Well, when I was talking to one of the HPI guys about the quad, I mentioned the rider looked like it was a "Ricky" and he said "yeah, I think it probably is". But that could simply mean he didn't know. ;)

He also told me the quad was going to be released first as a full RTR and then the body would be released later as a single item and would cost in the $20 range.

Here is Ricky, for comparison:

Yep, those riders are from the Ricky Carmichael motorcycle, we used them for the show because they looked good and were pretty close to what we needed. Those won't be used for our production parts, we are in the process of manufacturing our own riders that will fit better and be more durable. Our riders will be painted and decaled.

Our plans include a complete RTR Quad, and we will also offer the body and rider as option parts.

how great is that ATV gonna look with a set of the new HPI nubz tires on it?......and 4.6 savage SS...nubz tires....atv body and rider.....and probably a set of wheelie bars.....how great would that be to bash with and amuse the neighbors?....

Looks like fun. something different as far as the look is nice to see on monster trucks. I liked the old Quad Rider look but didn't like that solid rear axle. This should work out great.

The riders will be tough, molded from lightweight flexible vinyl. The handlebars are also flexible to help absorb impact. And the feet will tethered to the chassis so they can move around a little for realistic driver movement.

The only damage that you'll see is scrapes and scratches similar to what you get on Lexan bodies. The great thing is how realistic the Quad looks with the rider on it, people are amazed when they see it run.

That thing was doing wheelies with ease. Kinda reminds me of my picco 26 motor. What motor is on that savage? Possibly the K46 motor?

I was alittle wearey before I seen the video, and ear to ear grin on my face while watching it changed my mind.I really really wish it was a kit tho, Ive allready got too many junk radios. The power displayed by it makes me wish I didn't live 3000+ feet above sea level.

How quick can you say "I'll take two sand paddle tires and cut down a set of road tires into sand slicks for the front". This would rock since it doesn't use the front tires for most of it's trip down the beach anyway. Too cool, HPI. (Now to make it look good enough on a Traxxas chassis)

Did you see the new paddle tires and razorback fronts shown by Panther at the show? Looks like they were made for this application.

The RTR looks like it's just going to be the Savage .25 RTR that includes the Quad body and rider. I think it's a good option, though. It'll give new buyers a choice between the stock truck body (which is pretty tough for a RTR shell) and the ATV.

I LOVE those baldies on the front of the blinged-out Maxx, combined with paddles on the rear. Pull the front center driveshaft and two front dog bones from the Savage, put those baldies up front and paddles on the rear and hit the dunes for 2WD or put paddles on all four corners and really roost some sand!

I bet there is a linkage that connects the handlebars to the steering servo; so that when the truck steers one way the rider will also
Nah, it's just a shell, but give someone time and they'll mount a cheap servo linked to the bars (if they're moveable) with a Y-connector to the steering servo and it would be functional. I feel sorry for that poor driver figure once I get my hands on the ATV body kit :D

awnelson and others: The shell fits the Savage, so you should have no problem mounting it to a Maxx or Revo. There's a new Quad shell coming out by Pro-Line for the Traxxas trucks, but I like the looks of the HPI one much better.

I believe HPI stated that the quad will be offered with the .25 soon, and the rider will be an option after this. As for buying the body; HPI said that it will release it later this summer.

This stinks because it's such a cool body; why not capitalize now and put the kits out later? I'll just buy the proline one because everyone knows that their body will be out sooner than later:)

MegaMe

man that video looks awesome. Was that video with the guy that it will come with or is it the one taken from the bike kit? Because I love the way he moves around and leans a bit on the corners. It would ruin it IMO if they made the new version too rigid so that there was no movement... even if it made him fall off a bit.

I don't think it would work on a max though... I think it needs vertical plates for the look to be effective.

Anyone who saw that body up close at the show has to admit it was the most innovative one there, not to mention the best looking out of the two ATV bodies.

Tim'sLosi
06-01-2005, 09:05 PM
It's wierd how when you watch the video the Savage no longer "feels" like a truck but you can really get into the quad action. The wheels and tires need to be more realistic but this is gonna be very cool. Maybe I will keep my spare Sav after all!

Yep...definately keeping my "old" Savage, installing my spare 4.6 and a set of those Panther tires and waiting for that body. That is just dang cool...my wife even showed interest (not into r/c at all)! I think I may get a set of black TVP's though.

if the rider had joints which move at the slightest touch (like bobbleheads), it would be awesome seeing that guy ragdoll across the ground when you crash. :D
