Best in what capacity? Most power? Cheapest? Pullstart only? RotoStart capable? RPM? Torque? Gotta be more specific on what your financial limit is and what specifics you want.

for a great all around kick butt engine, look at the mach .26. they are affordable, very reliable, and powerful engines for the price. also the picco .26 and .27 are great too. ;)

I'll second the Mach .26, my buddy has it in his savage and it's a great engine for it. Great top end, great low end and yes, their a great engine for the buck. I plan to put one in my savage very soon.

Mach 26 or Picco 26 whatever you choose betwen these you will have a good engine. And they produce mor than enough power just remember you will not really be able to run any of these on a stock bog savage as it will not take the punch.Just though i had better mention that as you did not state if you had upgraded your truck or not.

Second gear on a savage doesn't like power at all,
it will bend the drive pin over , then it pushes out the thin metal retaining ring which will cut through the trans case.

I installed 2 pins, ----- same results, I added extra screws to the ring which helped.

HPI has come out with a better second gear system.

That was the only problem I had with my savage was it couldn't take power for a long period of time without a trans issue....

I have aolt of upgrades in the savage. Went with the collari 30 with the pull start. Not a big fan of the roto start.
