This is my hybrid. Lightning RR1 with Savage suspension/17mm hexes/HD diff outdrives/HD dogbones. I just finished it, the links and shocks still need tuning and the front body posts are missing

Wow, very nice E-maxx!!! What motor and ESC combo are you running?

P.S. Those wheels look sweet!

ccqqmm
12-19-2006, 02:18 AM
Feigao 9L with Mtroniks Truck V 1.07 (V 1.0 went up in smoke, but was replaced within one week). These wheels are great in snow (this is the reason why the truck looks clean. temperature when taking the pictures was about +1° C), because the snow almost doesn't rest in the wheel inside. In summer I run ProLine Big Joe on velocity rims.

Oh ok it just looks akward to me...But that is a nice truck though..

yeah, when I had a tmaxx before, I wanted to upgrade to another truck. I looked at the revo and I was like, what the?! It looks broken already!? So I bought the Tmaxx 3.3. I got to buy the revo 3.3 later. I like it, but I still think the suspension is, is... well, it still works the same as other RC's.

12-22-2006, 08:24 AM
thanks gang. it's for sale btw. :)
I agree street tires don't really belong on a sav, but after driving my buggy and truggy on the track, I won't even take the sav back to the track anymore.
they race mt's on a street track here and I may get into that if no one buys my savage.

Here is my Crawford Performance Engineering Evolution Clodbuster kit. This truck chassis is fully aluminum, with aluminum links and heavy duty rod ends, stretching it out to a 14 inch wheel base. Under the hood we have 2 monster stock motors directing poower to the clodbuster axles. The truck also utilizes TMAXX 4 inch shocks, and overall has about 8 inches of articulation. The normal rear steering on a clodbuster has ben locked out on this version as well, now only using 1 steering servo thats custom mounted on the front gearbox. Plans for this truck are to disassemble the main chassis center and paint bright green, and add a Gravedigger 1/8 Parma body for a more scale look. More information can be obtained on this chassis and others offered by CPE at: http://www.crawfordperformanceengineering.com

i've got a GPM sway bar kit on my savy. works well, especially for racing. it's designed for the savy too. it has very little use and i might take it off since i'm not racing anymore if you want to buy it.

If you run it in that cold of temp. tune the engine alittle lener so it will run hotter buy a temp guage and monter your head temps keep it warm room temp is a good starting point if the room is about ( 60-75 ). breake your engine in real good now and run it cand of hard too this will help in the cold

Dude, why do you give advice like that?
DO NOT lean your engine to make it run hotter. Tune it properly. 250 degrees at the plug in -20 ambient is not the same as 250degrees at the plug in 50 degree ambient.

Tune by temps for the ballpark then go by smoke, pinch and performance.

he gives advice like that because he is right you are supposed to lean your engine out for winter running and you want to bring the head temp up before you start it because it will make it start easier

wrong-you go richer when it's cooler out.

LD3Furious
12-31-2006, 11:07 PM
ChuckB is correct...Colder air is more dense, meaning the engine is sucking in more oxygen...generally speaking, you'll have to richen it up in colder temps to introduce more fuel to compensate.

not so much how dry/humid the air is when it gets cold, it's just that it's more dense so you need more fuel (richer) so the air/fuel mixture is the same.

based on how the motor sounded, it should have hit second. it was pretty much wound out. if the revo's new, it will take awhile for second to really start hitting good unless you adjust the shift point. IMO, it's a little high from the factory for a stock 2.5R.

ar15jules
01-01-2007, 10:42 PM
I think he probably has the better part of a gallon through it already. I think the reverb between the two houses may have had something to do with the sound. He was only hitting the ramp at less than 3/4 throttle.

I WISH I would have got my camera out last summer when I was hitting a BMX launch ramp at full speed with my Savage. HUGE air and backflips - but my story is worthless without video or pics. dangit

not so much how dry/humid the air is when it gets cold, it's just that it's more dense so you need more fuel (richer) so the air/fuel mixture is the same.

i was always told the more humid the air the less fuel because the engine is getting more moisture from the air

i think its alright in this case to HPi of the body, but only once... because the body does come from HPI so your advertising that particular product and then theres the Team Losi sticker for the kit..

Like ive seen a car with a Jconcepts sticker on it for the body and then pro-line for the tires.

The way I see it, it's fair to put a certain company's sticker on there if you've got something from that company on the vehicle. HPI for the body, Losi for the truck :)

Aside of that, I'm not out to advertise. That's not my job ;)

Pretty good, actually. The hard yellow springs really help a bunch. The tires get a lot of traction, and overall the tires are pretty good. The spoiler actually makes a considerable difference too - at WOT the truck used to get all squirrelly when the front tires ballooned and the contact patch was reduced to something about the size of your thumb  The spoiler helps to keep it more tame.

I'm gonna replace the pipe though, probably to one of Losi's HT tuned pipes (I'm thinkin the silver polished one) - with this pipe it doesn't perform quite how I would have hoped.

I clocked 49 km/h for the truck - courtesy of my VSM :roll2: respectable, but not good enough

Here are a couple of pics. The first one is of my 3 favorite trucks right to left (Supermaxx, St-R, and LST2)
I custom painted all the bodies myself, and race them all. Well actually i only race the Supermaxx and ST-R. The second pic is my Supermaxx with it's beater body. Yup I actually have a beater body for practicing and a nice show quality body for racing. As do all my trucks.

That's about as dirty as they get 80% of the time, and I haven't been running them much lately.

The engine head is there, you just can't quite see it. It's a lengthened Savage, running a TNX body. Most normal Savage bodies look goofy on it now.

I already blew two bearings out. My clutch was acting up and I was wondering why - and upon inspection and about 40 peices and what's looks like a bearing falls out... I guess I found my problem :D

I replaced 'em with some nice teflon sealed high-qual bearings, and it now works sooo much better :)

when i race, i change the clutch bearings before every main on the weekends. when i'm not racing, i change the clutch bearings about every 10 tankfulls or so. they're super cheap. easy to change. so why wait till they fail and possibly damage your engine or other drivetrain components? (not knocking you neon, making a general statement) bearings are probably one of the most overlooked maintenance item on monster trucks. the axle carrier bearing get changed at least every half gallon, or more often if they seem to be binding or sound like they've got grit in them. transmission bearings get changed every gallon. this may seem like overkill to some, but for me, it's peace of mind.

Not sure... threw out the packaging. The local hobby shop had them. It was the only aftermarket ones that I saw they had. www.forbeshobbies.ca , their website isn't the greatest but you can find their contact info there and ask.

That filter's pretty cool, the mesh part, gets moves when it gets sucked back and allows even more airflow to the engine.

It's a shame not very many others do... Tamiya deserves more credit than they're getting for such an awesome truck.

I don't know what I'm gonna do with RC in the coming months. I plan to get a new tuned pipe for the aftershock, and I may sell my TC3 - I have done nothing with it in like... forever  so the money is better in my hand than on a shelf collecting dust ;) We'll see.

Wayyy back when...when I first started in RC, I had an oval track in my hometown. One of the guys there was painting bodies. He had done a real nice fire job on this one. I'm not normally into fire designs...but this just looked awesome. So I bought it for $60. I had a friend who also raced with me. Apparently, he somehow "snagged" my new body and put it on his car without me knowing. He put a few scratches on it, but all in all it wasn't bad. I was quite highly P.O'd though. I can look back now, nearly 20 yrs later and laugh...but man!!!

thanks Dave! I'm thinking of getting one of those microT's. whats the run time on one of those?

Neon_Dave
01-28-2007, 09:48 AM
Depending on how long you leave the pack on the charger, you can get I'd say up to around 10 minutes, from what I hear. A charge is about 20-25 minutes, so it's more than reasonable. Just put a set of rechargeable AA's on the charger, and that's about it.

On a full charge it wheelies nearly uncontrollably if you peg the throttle from a standing start :D

It's unbeleivable fun. It was worth every penny.

Updated Revo. Mugen MBX5T tank, swaybars front and rear, O.S. 1/8th buggy air filter, throttle servo up front, battery pack to the front underneath the chassis, modified the chassis so the rear shocks don't touch it at full suspension extension, custom made receiver bracket using part of the cover of the original box that held the receiver, opti-drive, battery and switch. The truck weighs in at 9.3 pounds RTR and 48.9% of that weight is to the front. This is a basher but it's starting to look more like a racer. It handles great.
