Super Sport Plus ESC Joins SS5800 Motor to form a Super System
Novak’s Super Sport Plus Programmable ESC is now available with the SS5800 Brushless Motor as a brushless system. The programmable Brushless/Brush ESC comes conveniently factory-wired to the SS5800 Brushless Motor so it is ready-to-install straight out of the box.

THE SUPER SPORT PLUS PROGRAMMABLE BRUSHLESS/BRUSH ESC

The Super Sport Plus ESC combines the advantage of working with brushless motors, including Novak’s SS5800 8 1/2-turn motor (included in the Super Sport Plus Brushless System #3004), SS4300 10 1/2-turn brushless motors, as well as brushed motors down to 12-turns. The ESC’s convenient on-board programming allows users to easily adjust 5 brushless profiles and one brushed profile.
There are four adjustable parameters within each of its five customizable profiles: Minimum Brake, Drag Brake, Deadband, and Minimum Drive. Each of these profiles can be customized and saved for future use, or can easily be returned to the default factory settings. Customizing and saving the parameters is easily accomplished via the speed control’s convenient on-board programming: the One-Touch button and four different colored LEDS.

The Super Sport Plus ESC has all the features expected from a Novak-designed ESC, including Locked Rotor Detection Circuitry, which prevents brushless motor, battery, and ESC damage; Variable Throttle Step Technology, which gives the ESC its incredibly smooth performance; and Smart Braking II Circuitry, which gives drivers a full range of braking power without going into reverse until shifted. This allows smoother take-offs in reverse, and less wear on the drive train. Other included features are: One-Touch Set-Up, a factory-installed heat sink, Radio Priority Circuitry, Thermal Protection, and Polar Drive Technology.

THE SS5800 8 1/2-TURN BRUSHLESS MOTOR
The SS5800 8 1/2-turn brushless motor is specifically designed for R/C vehicles, is sensor-based for excellent braking and low-speed driveability, has low cogging, and provides longer run-times than brushed motors. Additional features include direct-solder wiring tabs, locked rotor protection, Thermal Overload Protection, and a virtually maintenance-free design.
The Super Sport Plus System provides a great value to the customer, as everything is ready-to-go thanks to the speed control being factory-wired to the motor. There is also the bonus of additional savings over purchasing the motor and speed control individually.

is this a new SS5800 that is a different turn I thought the SS5800 was a 11 turn motor this one is 8 turn?

SS5800 was "equivalent" to a 10-12 turn brushed motor. However brushless are made in a different way, hence it is 8.5 turns. Still the same motor as far as I can tell.

Same motor. It just takes less winds to equal a slightly higher turn brushless, and all BL motors have 1/2 turns in them I think. Novak's definitely pulling out the good stuff. Should be REAL fun to see how their newer systems perform against LRP and even some sensorless systems.

Is this the same esc?

Even if these were the same winds as a brush motor, with neo-dynium magnets they would still be much faster.

Not true. Look at a feigao 540 12s. Has a neo rotor much stronger than a brushed motor's can magnets, is 12 turns (delta wind, not wye, so there's no half turns), and it's Kv is about 3000 (If I remember correctly, a bit less than that). A 12 turn motor brushed has more top end than it.(comparing on 6 cells. The 12s would maul the 12 turn brushed motor on 10 or 12 cells, but that's an unfair comparison.) Also, the SS5800 is 8.5 turns of wire per phase, and it's nowhere near the performance of an 8 or 9 turn motor.

And no, the SS plus ESC isn't the same as the GTB. The GTB is a race oriented ESC, that can handle both brushed and brushless motors, and has all sorts of goodies...:D

As long as they don't forget about us original SS5800 users (COUGH Exchange program COUGH) then I'm happy. ;)

You and that exchange program of yours.....:p Actually, I'm most definitely with you on that one!:D:D:D It's either that, or upgrade my 5800 rotor so that it's the more powerful version that is supposed to be in the velociti motors, and I'll probably be happy (for a little while at least...lol!)

The SS+ does brushless and brushed, seems like novak is crowding their own market.

The SS+ can only handle down to an 8.5 turn brushless motor though, and only a 12 turn brushed motor. The GTB has no motor limit in either brushed or brushless mode. They're on two different levels.

Do you know what the price diff is between the two?

GTB ESC is supposed to be around 185 bucks, the SS+ is probably around 160ish. I have a feeling that the SS+ ESC price will drop once the GTB hits the streets though. Check out towerhobbies' listings, they have the GTB system, ESC, velociti motors, and the SS+ ESC listed on their site. Some very decent prices IMO too.
