imlearning to fly now and im planing to buy a 300s 40 or 60 size i got a great deal on os max 60fp,and wondering if i could fit it inside of the 40, and i think it's a little weak for the 60 size, cuz the engine is pretty old...and is this a good 2.plane or is this plane very hard to fly...??

thanks.

Hi,
That would be a big jump from a trainer to an Extra 300. Your trainer has positive stability, and will tend to right itself from bad attitudes. The Extra type machine will go wherever you point it, and continue until you point it somewhere else. You would find it especially difficult to land safely, all of the inputs must be very precise and the touchdown soft to avoid damage. I bet your trainer has a nosewheel, right? Just the transition from a tri-gear to a tail dragger is a bit of a jump, and should be made with a model more docile than an Extra.
As for putting an old tired engine in a new plane, that can get discouraging fast. Models like the Extra really need a reliable engine, and installing something less is another invitation to problems.
It would be good to choose one of the advanced trainers with a symetrical wing, and get used to flying the maneuvers with that next. Modifying this to a tail dragger would give the much needed experience before tackling a sensitive aerobatic scale model.
Have fun, Dave

thanks dave...

would this be a better choice then http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma0480.html with an 46 la, or will this be to big for it...?

Hi,
The Dazzler would be a very reasonable second choice. A .46LA would be an ideal engine to match up to this machine. Since they mention large control surfaces, it would be reasonable to keep the throws small at first, while you get acquanted. From here to the Extra type machine would be a very reasonable move once you can handle the Dazzler comfortably.
Have fun, Dave

would the Dazzler be light and strong enogh (with os46la) to hover...?

Hi,
The Dazzler is a good choice for aerobatic training. I would doubt very much that the .46LA could hold a hover for any length of time. The machines that can hover readily make poor training mounts due to the extreme amount of overpowering.
Cheers, Dave

it a very big step trainer to Extra this small Extra are very sensitive on control and it let no.........error from the pilot

after my first plane (Trainer) I used a Super sporster 40 with a 70 surpass
and after a Goldberg Extra 300 23 % scale

the Super Sporster is a very good transition plane from a trainer, a lot easy to land very good semi acrobatic.
I think another good choice for you is a Sig Something Extra, this plane are very smooth if you fly it smooth and nearly 3 d plane but a bit slowly IMO

If you want a great 2nd plane, check into the U-Can-DO by great planes. This plane can be used as a low wing trainer and it is very hard to stall on lo rates. Once you are comfortable with it, you can go wild with it. It will 3d with the best of them. It is a very nice plane and it will make your flying more enjoyable. Check the reviews on it. I may be a little partial to it because I have one and it is a complete joy to fly.
