As the topic states... Im looking to drop a new motor into my MGT.
(Its not becase the stock motor isnt good... i love it... its just that im a power hungry fool and it will be nice to have the stock TTR .21 around in case blow up the new motor)
My two primary candidates right now are the Fantom .27 and the Mach .26.
The Fantom would be more powerful, but Ive been hearing great things about the Mach, and for ~$125 sp, you cant go wrong.
Im also still thinking about the Collari .30... but it's not on the top of my list right now, due to hearing a few bad things about it.
Other motors Ive been considering are (in order of priority): K4.6, SH .28, Wasp .28, Diablo .28.
Id like to go with .25+ displacement since MTs arent limited in displacement like buggys are, but if I can get a good .21 that will perform with the larger motors, thats cool too.
So waddaya think?
*edit*
Also... has anyone heard any news about the TTR .28?

SH28 has poor reputation too -

K4.6 maybe too new to tell (I'm still building mine), haven't seen lots of opinions on the others you mention, except the Mach 26 which seems to be a solid motor.

I've got two sh.28's and love em both. One is pretty new, the other has probably four gallons through it. I only run 20% though. The broken rod instances that I've heard about were running 30%. I dunno why you'd want to run 30% in that motor anyhow, that thing is a screamer on 20%.

I have a mach .26 in my MGT and it's fast.

I would go with the x3 .26 from picco or their .27 that was just released. Most of these .28 are stump pullers, but it's also nice to have some revs too. Picture this: your on an open field with your torque monster engine. You pull a couple of nice wheelies then do a wide open run, but wait you truck is really slow because it only has grunt for wheelies...Now if you had a Picco (which has been proven time and time again for power and reliability $135.00 .26, 170.00 for the .27) you could still pull wheelies and also race around at WOT due to the high rev ceiling.
My 2 cents

I run the mach .26 in my MGT. Picked it up on ebay brand new for $105 shipped. You can't beat the price to power ratio.

Odd. I was just looking at engines again the other day. I still haven't seen anything larger than a .21 with any sort of linear/proportional power output. All the big stuff seems to have two speeds - wide open, and stop.

If you go with a .26, I recommend the Sportwerks .26. It's the same engine as the Mach .26, but has a different head and carb. The Sportwerks comes with three venturis for the carb. The 9mm one makes the engine drink fuel like it's cheap, but you get insane power. I got mine for $130. The only negative thing I've heard about the Mach/Sportwerks .26 is about broken pull starts, but there is a kit you can get that has the XTM 24.7 backplate and one-way bearing that fits right up so you can use a S-25 (stock Savage .25) pull start. I have two S-25 pull starts (bought one for a backup just in case) but I've used the one that came with my truck through two engines and about 6 gallons of fuel and it's still in perfect shape. That's the reason people switch to that pull start on the Mach/Sportwerks.
The only .28 engine I would personally use right now is the K4.6 by HPI. I'm a member of a Savage-only board where there are a lot of guys using various .28 engines and the K4.6 is the only one I've not read of having major problems, tunes very well and runs like the squirrels do when I have my truck out.

SpeedballTrix - you're completely welcome!
kitty - is that the racer forum or the central forum? Since I'm building a 4.6SS around a pr of PBs LCG TVPs, I'm sure glad to hear the 4.6 engine is turning out to be a good one.
You can check my web site -> http://pages.globetrotter.net/rc10gt/howto_anglais.htm#Turn_your_MGT_into_a_full_racer_

Im probably going to wait until next season to get a new motor, since the stock .21 is performing with excellent strength and reliability right now... and in reality, im not a good enough racer to max the truck with the .21 anyways =P
So since I will be waiting, chances are that by the time I do need the new motor, the TTR .28 will be out... which will pwn all =)

That's pretty cool that you're being patient, Speedball.
Duster: I'm a regular on the "Central" board and registered on the "Racer" board though I haven't posted there yet. Considering that there are a lot of guys who are on both, I'd venture to say that the opinions on the engines would be pretty much the same on either. I think you're gonna love those TVPs! They look pretty sweet with the black anodising and even though you'll have to fab your own center skid and probably do a little grinding on the rear-most engine chassis brace for outdrive/bone clearance, they are very well made, tough as nails and you can still use a Roto Start if that's what you use.

kitty - you're so right, those TVPs are going to be great. I've gotten 6 of the alum braces installed and have clearanced the two in the rear - had been told the back one needed it but figured out the other after getting it together and seeing the bone resting on the forward one. One more brace to add behind the radio box and this thing should be ready for anything.
PB has made the flexibility of this just unreal. I'm going to run stock config for a while and then look hard at tank an the other mods he's pre-engineered into these TVPs.
