a while ago i bought a trinity NIMH 3000 battery pack. it was a realy great battery untill i accadentially shorted it out and set fire to one of the cells. now i cant charge it without it starting on fire again. would it be possiable for me to save a little $$$ and send my battery back to trinity for repair (only one of the cells is bad... i hope)? i know it will not be free, but would they fix it?

Is this a matched or unmatched pack? If it's unmatched, then you can just buy a brand new cell from somewhere (it'll be around $5 or so... I think Integy sells individual cells).
If it's a matched pack, then you'll have to get it rematched. Whoever does this will have to find a cell that closes matches the one in your pack. Some hobby shops offer this service.

I wouldnt try it. Just get some more batts. Anyway, if you sent it in, they would have to change the cell and the pack probably wouldbnt work as well. Just get a new pack.

You can replace the single cell but you'll never be able to race with that pack again because it won't have as much voltage and it will fade much more than it did before. It will make a good practice pack.

What you need to do 1st is see if the other cells are ok. Remove the cell thats bad & see if the remaining 5 will charge up, if you have a charger that will charge 5 cells. The other thing you can do is check the resistance & voltage of each cell individually. That will usually tell you which cells are bad. If the other 5 cels read the same they're probably ok. Call Trinity. They may be able to sell you a cell thats close to the sma rating as your pack. We did this years ago with Maxtec. We just told them the numbers & for like $5 they sent a new cell. I know Trinity is a lot bigger co, but what do you have to lose?
Even if it's not a perfect match it's still worth rebuilding. Anyone use practice packs?

Ive had the same thing happen to me with a 7-cell 2400, but luckilly it was the last cell so it was easily fixable.
