View Full Version : Best Paint Compeition - June 2005

Piggy89373
06-03-2005, 08:31 AM
The Best Paint competition will be open for entrees for the month of June and will close at Midnight (EST) on Thursday, 30 April 2005.

Restrictions: None.

The best paint competition is an opportunity for people to express their unbounded imaginations on an R/C car body. Realism is not required. Let your imagination loose a piece of plastic to create a work of art.

1) Design: How well does the design fit/flow on the body? Is it visually appealing? How are the color choices? Originality does not count, but naturally something that every painter has done will not score as high as something unique and new.

2) Execution: Regardless of how complex or difficult it is, how well is it executed? Are there paint bleeds? Are the lines straight (or correctly curved)? Are their obvious mistakes? Fingerprints in the paint? How well executed are the fades and other basic painting techniques? etc.

3) Difficulty: How hard was this body to paint? Is it one color? Is the entire thing 5mm checkers with 4 different colors in each square? Are the mask lines through difficult areas of the body (i.e., wing mounts or stadium truck beds)? It may be 2 colors, but is one marbled? Is one color a candy that requires a special backing technique? This is where experience as a painter helps the most.

Each area will be judged with a maximum of 10 points. After the points are tallied, the highest score wins.

The photo and background will not be judged but a clean, well-lit photo that clearly shows the body is needed. To often, muddy or poorly lit pictures limit the cars chances of winning. Please limit your entries to 3 photos per car. Keep in mind that a better picture will attract more attention for the People Choice.

The winning body may be chosen to appear in Radio Control Car Action!! RULES for Best Paint competitions:

1) Any Car may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any Car submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters and Modelers are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) No restrictions, paint from your imagination.
7) 3 entries per person.
8) Cars must be painted within the last 6 months.
9) Imagination is key

Each submission must include the following:
Body and chassis manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)

Rules for the Judge - You will have to judge within 5 days of the end of the contest. If you are unable to do so, please contact Piggy89373 via PM within 24 hours of the end of the contest.

This month, ADRCRACING will judge the Paint competition. If he cannot perform his duties, I will select a replacement judge.

Viewers of this competition are encouraged to keep their comments to a minimum. Negative, derogatory, or inflammatory comments will not be tolerated. If the aforementioned comments are made by a contestant, their entry will be disqualified. Additionally, they will not be permited to enter the contests for a period not to exceed three months.

Next months Best Paint Competition will restricted to letters and numbers.

Let's show off your talents and have fun. Let the competition begin!!

i cut the outline and painted it as i would anything else. i have about 8 hours in cut time before i painted anything.

if the mods think i should delete the pic i will. i'd rather withdraw the entry than ruin it for everyone else.

Myst: LOVE the fades, bud! The silver center section is pretty darned cool and there's something about the area around the headlamps that makes me keep looking back at them. Kinda like a spiked hairdo or something hehehe

Mel*E*Mel: I like how the orange of that first one looks inset - nice effect! What I like even more is your use of "ragged" edges on the other bodies. It reminds me of frayed rope. Did you do all that with a small paint brush? The Fury body is pretty funky (in a good way)!

JDawg: Your lines are so tight on that buggy shell, it could pass for one huge internal sticker. Very nice!

harley1874666
06-13-2005, 09:33 PM
that looks super clean jdawg, i haven't yet been able to paint like that. good job.

Mel*E*Mel
06-13-2005, 09:49 PM
Kitty .. first .. thanks!! The ragged look is done with a pin-stripers brush #00.. gets to be a pain sometimes but i also love the look of it .. i seem tyo use it on alot of the bodies i do...i guess it's my trade mark in a way..lol

Thanks Myst .. I'll be around the GT forum here and there .. just need a break from all the dumb kids posting non-sence.. It was driving me crazy not being able to go off on them in person for posting dumb threads

Well compared to most of the entries here I believe mine is kinda "pale".

Oh well this is my FIRST time I've painted lexan. Somehow I've always had used cars in the past. Eventhough I started around 1991.

Piggy,
My body was not bought. I just have a good friend! I'll do my best to judge a winner for next month but I will ask for help from others. What If I would make it a pole and let the readers of the board help pick a winner? Is there any thing in the rules that say we can't do that. The reason I ask is because I haven't seen it done yet? is there any objections to that? Shannon

Don't paint it just have someone else paint it and you enter it ..seems to work ..
I thought this was a painting contest not showoff someone elses work contest...
Hey Harley don't worry bro once that thing is done it's going to be a killer ride!!! I'm loving it so far man
