I just built a Tiger Thunder Voyager which is pretty large boat (1M) and with keel and sails nearly my height
I just wondered how everybody else transports their boat - luckilly i was able to use a relative's estate car (stationwagon?) i lay it in the back fully rigged.
but it is not really feasible to borrow that car everytime.
i assume that i should be able to remove the mast and rigging assembly, or should i just loosen it off somewhere to enable the mast to be removed from the boat and then lay it down without disconnection all the rigging.
any advise on how other poepl do it is appreciated!
rchadd,
If you have limited room (inrelation to the boats size), then un-rigging, or loosening things up to dismount the mast is probably the easiest way of doing it. Which to do is sort of up to you and how much re-rigging you're capable of, that sort of thing.

PS - You could always buy one of those 'estate cars'... :)

I have a 50/800, and of course it presents problems when transporting. The easiest/only way with it is to disconnect the mast and rigging. Otherwise, the only way I know to transport fully rigged involves the use of a full-size van. It stands 80 inches keel to truck, so even the minivan I presently drive would be hard put to transport fully rigged.

heheh geuss you need something with a sunroof, just run the mast through the opening in the roof and listen to the wind whistle through the rigging.

I have a Ford F150 with an 8 foot box and a tonneau cover over it. My one meter boat slides in real nice under the cover and not problem with wind or weather. Time to either trade vehicles or switch to tug boats (ha,ha)

hey
you might look at one of those plastic top carriers like they sell at K-mart.
I know the problem, so I bought a van. by the time you get all your radio gear and your cooler and chair in there it will be full. you might even get a u-haul trailer, sometimes they sell them on E-bay.
good luck
