SWEET!! I like that yellow! And the graphics. You didnt over do it on those. I've seen some people just deck theres out all over... i dunno.. it just doesnt look relaistic sometimes.
I wish i had a fleet! I'm workin on it tho lol This is just my first big RC boat. I hope on gathering up like 5 huge ones. My next one i want to use MHZ Dual Z-Drives, powred by a MHZ Polini 50, all conclealed in there MHZ Hunter V hull. But thats many years away right now... hehehehehe

That's the way I wanted to do it. I tried not to overdo the graphics or load it up with too many decals. I may add some subtle things later on.
I have some pix of more of my boats but I've been having problems lately trying to upload them.

Here is my boat
It is eventually going to be a scale model of a pantera race boat (z drive and a more scale pipe) but that is a long time from now.

for now it has a zenoah g260pum lime green head, bonzi lime green clutch, bonzi lime green mounts, walbro water pump, Hanson pipe, still not sure of the make of the hardware.

the inside is grabber green and the outside is "universal black" (duplicolor arcrylic enemal)and thats all I can think of.

I want to see some flaming skulls!! Come on, racing stripes & cheesy flaming skulls add at least 5mph to your top end.

Chris LaPanse
06-13-2005, 10:24 PM
well, I've got the stripes - does that give me 2mph?

nighthawk355
06-13-2005, 10:41 PM
lol, ya you get the extra 2 lol. Nice boats y'all!! I like the stealthy black look, hehe. How did you paint the fiberglass inside green??? just regular spray paint???? Also, how come, or whats the advantage of running an open engine compartment like that, and not an enclosed one like in mine? just curoius.\

-Garrett

PS: Scorpien, i was surprised no one had put up a thread like this... hehe So, thats why i put it up!!, cause its fun to show otheres what you have created, and then other people can get ideas for even there boats. So its nice =o)

scorpien boats

there is no advantage to running an open engine compartment (unless your engine is aircooled which mine is not) my gay pipe won't fit under the deck so I have to have it like that untill I find another solution...

painting the fiberglass inside I used duplicolor engine enamel (from autozone) because that was the only kind that had that color. It took alot of coats but it worked great.

Allright, tight tight. Ya now that i thought about that question lol i got mine covered because i want it to look as realistic as possible, plus i plan on taking it in salt water and i would hate to get that spray on the inside... yuck.... hey... another QQQQ, what would you say is the best solution to getting rid of salt water after a run??? Like is there a special type of like spray on cleaner thats totally safe on all my components in my boat?

BTW - that reminds me DD - I will definitely be running (unless there is something like a blizzard or tornado or other unavoidavble issue) 1 week from Sat, and will try to get some #'s on that prop of yours so I can get it back to you ASAP. Like, i have one prop... its a berryl... something 275... prather... anyways, How many should i get? like 2 more? Cause how often do people go through them... Also, mine are not balanced or trimmed or anything... i dunno how to do that stuff, plus Bonzi' told me i could get away with just runnin these non balanced etc props. Do i loose any speed? If so, how much?

Chris LaPanse
06-14-2005, 02:35 PM
You definitely loose some speed - probably 6-8mph if the prop isn't balanced. If it is balanced, but not polished or sharpened, probably 2-4mph, and polished, sharpened, and balanced will give you the best speed. Also, if it is not balanced, it will damage your driveline eventually from the vibration.

Doubledog
06-14-2005, 03:24 PM
$18 for a prop is cheap insurance. Buy an extra. I know guys that run them unbalanced on hulls the size of yours & then slap the same prop on just super thin & sharp & it gains about 2 mph. Not noticeable with the naked eye, just makes for better bench racin'.

There's a saying especially true in the single outboard areas......."never turn down the chance to try another prop".

Doubledog
06-14-2005, 03:25 PM
Chris, get some good runs with it alright. Make sure its either going to work or not for your boat. :)

06-14-2005, 05:40 PM
Thanks. As I said, definitely a week from Sat. (next saturday is a large rocket launch, and I will be flying my AMRAAM for the second time on a Redline motor. I'll post some pics in my thread in the OT forum)

nighthawk355
06-14-2005, 08:56 PM
Aight. Well i think i'm ganna learn how to balance them later, and right now maybe purchase a already balanced prob from bonzi for 50$.... I dunno any other place to get it cheaper... again i just need something thats not ganna ruin my boat and take away a ton of speed.

-Garrett

Micho523
06-14-2005, 09:52 PM
Get one from warehouse hobbies. (whobbies.com) their prather 275 is about $18 +15 for sharpen and balance. they don't polish though, they may if you ask, at extra $ probably

Chris LaPanse
06-14-2005, 11:48 PM
Yep, and the P275 or (now that I've tried it) the X470/3 are perfect props for a G260 powered boat (probably the 275 in your case - the 470 might be a bit small for a 60"+ hull)

nighthawk355
06-14-2005, 11:54 PM
alight, tight! Ya, that price is much better, and i am not ganna be picky about being all polished.... i mean.. when do u see a prop? lol its in the water!!!. Except fi your showin off yer boat on the stand...

Chris LaPanse
06-15-2005, 01:11 AM
Polishing does affect the speed - not noticeably for sport running, but it does add 2-3mph (all other things being equal). However, it is not necessary for the boat to run well, or to have fun.

JoeP123
06-15-2005, 06:12 AM

Read the thread "Props--Sharpen, balance & polish". I never did one before either and after reading this and another article about it, it was a breeze. And a prop balancer is real cheap, I paid 25.00 Cnd for mine, the TopFlite Magnetic Balancer.

Okay, a shot of another one from a fleet. Most of you have seen this one before also. It's a .12 sized version of the Wild Thing built by Grimracer. O.S. .12 powered, Mac pipe and Futaba radio system using Hi-Tec HS81-MG servos for both duties. Hardware is a combo of Octura and home-made. The boat is very fast for a small block, one of my favorites to play with until the IMPBA "A" mono class gets going around here. There are videos of it in www.rcflix.com of it running. It's under OB Nut's videos in the Members area.

BTW, when he took the shot I was in the middle of doing a header change if you notice that the pipe is sitting in there backwards.

Ron Olson

Yup, it's all wood, just like the Wild Thing 21. I didn't want to paint it because Mike "Grimracer" Zaborowski did such a nice job of building it that it would be a shame to cover it with paint. Mike is coming out with an epoxy-glas version of it. The mold is done and a few have already been pulled from it. I have no idea of how many that he built from wood but very few that I know of.
I did use some carbon fiber angle for the servo mount and strut mount. Included was one of his famous fuel cells and an isolated motor mount. On his site, www.grimracer.com are 2 shots of it before he sent it to me.

I use to run with this boat when I had my 53" Hydro, the original owner let his in-law drive it(very bad idea), and up on shore it went. Big hole in hull, it sat in his garage for 6 months. So I rescued it, repaired it, bench tested and thats it.

The Budweiser 50' Bonzi is a Edge model with a air cooled engine. The canopy was cut to give it a little air although it still ran way hot!

How do you know if the engine runs to hot? OR to cold???? what are the signs?

You burn your fingers when you touch the head! Do NOT lick it! :p No, seriously, you can do the good old-fashioned spit test. Drop a little on the head and if it sizzles, it's too lean. Generally a fried glow plug tels you that it's too lean also.
Too cold and it's too rich or else the water that you're running in is too cold. After the ice is off the ponds my boats don't run well as the cold water is overcooling the engine. If you can touch the head for a few seconds after bringing it in from a hard run, you are close.

Is that one of Verns boats? If so, his gel is something else. Can you show us some pics of it outside in the sun? What speeds, prop, etc?

Hows the radio box holding up for you? I've considered one in the past but have too many regular ones laying around to justify. :o

Here's one of my brothers masterpiece, 3-1/2 years in the making. Totally hand made. Excluding the motor and electronics. All of the castings were done by me, except the prop. We are hoping we can cast some nnice large scale props in the near future. This thing is seven feet long 23-1/2" wide, weighs in at 62 pounds. Is powered by a Toro 25cc edge trimmer adapted to electric start using the guts from a Ryobi 4-1/2" power saw.
What a wonderful site on the water.

How quiet is the Bonzi' pipe and does it offer good performance? Was told by the designer that he intended its use for the cars as they need more low end torque. Doesn't matter, if its quiet enough, I might consider one.

Looks like your getting the lynx bug dd lol, just doing abit searching on a lazer 40 or 45, against a lynx, the lazer would be far cheaper but only glass, need to think about the pound to dollar thing now lol. Knew i shouldve brought my boat over. :)

Yea, I'm in love with it for sure. That one boat ( SASSA III ) is a breath taker because of its lines. They flow............

My PSR Fighter is a fine boat and they run as fast as some of the Lazers. Theres not much need for me to have two very similar boats on the shelf. I bought an AC Saber just before coming here that'll be my next play boat. Sent all my engines out for tuning and have some new quiet pipes on order. Can't wait.

Well its not my RC boat but its the best I can do for my first post. I will try and go into more detail over the next month or two. I have a Prather Tunnel Cat, I bought it back 15 years ago and have never finished it. It has been sitting in the attic of my parents home, honestly I forgot it was even there. Everything is ready to go except for buying the servos, and some cables. the Photo below is my real hobbie, 1980 Capri 25. We race the boat hard all season long.

Bringing it back from the dead....

Here are few new rigs to grace my office. I love these old tunnels as they're so close to the real thing and you can buy them fairly cheap now. Anyone need a K&B OB? LOL.

The first one is almost perfect. Needs nothing but a nice wooden stand and a little wipe on the engine and a polished prop.

I'm in love with this boat. Its really something else. Just bought it the other day and it has one bad spot and its a tiny one at that.
