I havn't seen a forum for sprint cars or dirt oval cars so I decided to post this thread. I've looked at a couple of cars by Custom Works, Bullet Racing, Kleins and others. If you have one please feel free to post pictures and talk about it, Nitro or Electric.

I recently picked up a Custom Works Enforcer GBX Sprinter.

Well, mine's raced on a paved oval, but with a couple very minor changes it'll be ready for dirt. I built this one from the ground up. It utilizes a old Traxxas Nitro Hawk tranny, and Nitro Rustler front bulkhead that has been modified a bit and mounted backwards. The chassis is made out of old street sign aluminum and reinforced with 1/4" aluminum square stock and the shock towers are made from 1/8" 6061 T-6 aluminum. The a-arms are HPI Super RS4, with RS4 front hubs and axles, and Traxxas Nitro 4-Tec rear hub carriers and axle, with modded Nitro Rustler slidders. Tires and wheels are HPI Super sized with 35R compound in the rear and 33R compound up front. The body is a IMCA style I got from McAllister Racing. http://www.mcallisterracing.com/racing/

This one is a all new one, the one your thinking of is the old Kyosho Inferno 10 that I modified for oval. Congrats on making into a mag, and I do visit your site quite often.

HI guys,

I need some help I am planning on building some cars for myself (all quarter scale petrol cars) and I am considering building cars for sale (including tyres). It is some time off yet due to a shortfall in funds (low budget approach will be needed).

I need to acquire a lathe and a milling machine (CNC Mill)and I have decided that I will build the "CNC Mill" myself but I need to get some stuff together first. The "CNC Mill" will be used for production of most components for the car (mostly alloy & some steel), I hope to eventually fully manufacture the three types of car in-house (all my own design variations based on existing real life race cars).

I am very keen to get my hands on a Sprintcar and a Pancar to get a better idea of scaling of parts etc, What would help me enormously is if I could borrow or rent a car from somebody to assess the design and measure and draw up a set of plans for a "prototype" car that would then be heavily modified or redesigned to my specs.

I don't intend to race any cars at the present due to no tracks available here at the moment but hope to organize some guys into getting that changed.

I am also intending to setup a special low budget class car that will use "Ryobi or Talon" "whipper snipper" 25cc & 30cc motors in standard trim (no mods allowed). The idea is to supply a car that will use a $99.00 AU(25cc) and the other using a $169 AU (30cc) motor that can be purchased at any hardware store here and each of these motor's are very strong and reliable and easy to start.

I have so many design and production ideas running around in my head I am desperate to get it all started.

I would love some help in this direction from anybody and everybody I can get involved in this, can you help me ?

Some of the information I require for example:
• Chassis measurements
o chassis width - frame only - no suspension
o chassis height - frame only - no suspension
o chassis length - frame only - no nerf bars etc
o wheelbase - axle to axle
o Spring poundage - sprint rates - rough only - I don't all your secrets
• Wheels
o Size - 4" x what width
 LF - LR - RF - RR
o Tyre Sizes - in outer diameter & width (tread)
 LF - LR - RF - RR
o Stagger - rough only - I don't all your secrets
• Weight fully fuelled - - rough only - I don't all your secrets
• Radio control - what do you use or recommend
• Imperial or Metric parts for car and components, I'm still a little unsure of what to use for manufacture - the rest of the world (apart from USA) obviously uses metric for everything.
I just need some help with this project I not looking to steal anybody's Ideas or secrets ( I have plenty of my own).

HELP !~

Try my site www.quarterscalelegends.com , there is a forum there on 1/4 scale. To scale a car all you need is a model of a sprint car and scale it off of that.

go see a sprint car race and get a pit pass. go to someone and tell them you are wanting to build a model and they may help you out. (by taking measurements etc...)

I would do that however there are no cars let alone races anywhere near me here in the North west of Tasmania.

That's why I want to build cars here and start a club in my city (Burnie).

Thanks Griz,
Nice cars, very sharp. Whats an EDM?
They have some pretty insane looking cars.
What are some of the companies that make these kits? Are there any really detailed ones out there? I went on DirtOval.com, they had some very detailed cars, that looked very realistic and it looked like they were made of metal to, some were large scale one as well. Wheres a good place to look for these bad boys

Thanks

The links section at dirtoval.com is how I figured out what I know about oval so far. The cars with the metal cages and bottom plates are Klien sprinters. An EDM (East Coast Dirt Modified) is basically a RC10GT with some conversion parts. Funny you should ask I just finished building one tonight. This one has the OFF (Our Front Frames) conversion on it. They are wicked fast. The fastest EDM cars I've seen are all OFF cars. I'm thinking about going for one of their sprint cars also. I know the guy that makes them. He and I used to meet up on the dragstrip quite frequently.

This is an EDM (Butt ugly but fast)

I have mine all tricked out. Loose track kit offset kit dynotech wingsliders offsets for the rear wheels arms and tc3 steering rack conversion. Klien alloy tranny with RR gears inside. Its sweet and handles pretty good. Still have a ways to go to master setting one of these up. And the track changes so much between heats. I made up these videos today from some tape I shot on Sat.

how much stagger do you guys run?

griz11
12-11-2006, 11:50 PM
We run rubber tires at our track so there is no stagger in the tires. The foam guys run it but I haven't run foams yet. I'm going to Dallas next month to run on a couple of tracks there. One is a foam track and one a rubber tire track. Both are going to hold national races next year so I want to check them out. Trying to buy an OFF sprinter now. There is one at the hobby shop for sale. Those cars are unreal. If I get that one and win the GT2 for R/C of the Year on TRCZ I'll have 3 sprinters and an EDM :) I want to convert the GT2 to an outlaw with an .18TZ in that puppy. The Pro Series is going to run .18's next year :) The 27 car in this video is an OFF sprinter.

http://media.putfile.com/Nitro-Sprints-Q1-H2-Dec-2

A guy I know from drag racing makes them. They are based on a B4 instead of a RC10GT.

This is the new style OFF. Shorter wheelbase.

http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/photos/197467/lg-74806.jpg

This is the old style long OFF Sprinter. Actually I like these better but they aren't making them now.

http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/photos/197467/lg-69894.jpg

The brothers that drive those two cars are animals on the track. So smooth and fast. I'm grinding away trying to get my EDM ready for Saturday. The body is painted and drying and I have to rebuild the tranny and replace the rear bulkhead and it will be ready for a test run.

Have you seen a 1:1 Sprint? They have such severe stagger they HAVE to turn right to control the car. Sometimes the car will corner without even turning the wheel left.

I'm thinking maybe you could run a truck tire RR and a buggy LR and get that thing to turn.

griz11
12-16-2006, 08:38 AM
I asked some of the faster drivers around here including one that drives for a factory. They told me that the little cars don't have to have such severe set-up as the big ones because of weight difference. For instance. Most 1:1 cars run positive camber on the inside wheel. As the 1:1 car goes into the turn and tries to slide to the outside it pulls that inner wheel more upright and give it the maximum contact patch while going through the turns. The 1:1 sprinters also have a solid rear axle which makes it harder to turn. I run offset on my CW. And mine turns on its own. You can also run different caster on either side of the front to get it to turn in also. You set these up to push going into the corner. As you go toward the corner you turn in and then let off the throttle slightly until the tire catches and turns the car. Getting them to turn in isn't as big of a problem as what they do when you mat the throttle coming out of the turn. Getting them to be stable coming out is harder to accomplish. Some things that help there are running less toe in on the inside rear wheel. A much harder spring/oil combination on the inside rear also. This throws all the weight on the outside front wheel when you let off going into the turn and 'sticks' that tire. Yea I used to go to Devil's bowl in Dallas a lot and watch the dirt oval cars. I love going to a WOO race. I'm just starting to learn all this stuff about the scale sprinters. Its very interesting and you have to throw out a lot of stuff you know works on other cars. The sprinters require quite a bit of finesse to run fast. The EDM's however are the 'mat and turn' class where you can really just hit the gas hard and not have to worry that much about it getting out of control. My EDM is almost finished. Still have to buy an engine and a steering servo. But the rest is pretty much complete.

http://image.rcuniverse.com/gallery/photos/197467/lg-76027.jpg

Strange looking until you analyse why they look so weird. The whole body is a double decker wing. More for function than looks. I hated them when I first saw them run. But after driving one I bought one the next weekend.

I have most of my new bod installed now. Sprint car bodies are a pain to install. The two side pieces have multiple holes that all have to line up with the cage and bottom plate. Takes a bit of time and you have to take the car pretty much down to the chassis. But they are well protected so I don't expect to have to change it very often.

hey guys, im verry intrested in running 1/8 scale buggy converted to dirt oval car. I currently drive the heck out of my mgt, but it is getting boring. and im getting the bug to race, at a track with people, sadly the mgt is never going to compete with the truggys, so,...

I have a basher buggy right now, a ofna ultra mbx pro.
its got 10+ bashed hard gallons of fuel thru it, and its pretty beat. so im thinking maby a whole new chassi is a good idea to start with.
thinking about the ofna ultra gtp oval setup.
do most tracks make you run a .21? or can it be .26 or more?

i have to ask where do we find boddies for the oval conversions?
all I keep finding are the stock gtp boddies, ( wich are cool ) but not a real dirt oval boddy.

I am also searching for fourms where guys that acutally run dirt oval post on. its dead around here. please point me in the right direction to find some info on running a dirt oval car. I realley dont want to go in with out doing my homework. like trying to figure out good weight oils to run in diffs and shocks, tires, ext...

We race 360 winged sprint cars. I'm wanting to look into a 1/4 scale gas or a bit smaller nitro. I have a friend that opened up a indoor Go-kart racing facility. It would be great to race sprints on this track. I also want to look for a RC Go-kart. I haven't found any information on karts. If any of you know of company's, web-site's & forum's, please let me know. I do not want a kid's toy but, a man's toy ! lol

Looks like this may be a great thread.

Anyone know who makes dirt oval shock towers for the RC10B4? www.speedysracingparts.com makes some decent looking towers but wondering what else is out there. My late model body just clears the stock shock towers but a shorter VCS onroad style shocks with more spring options would be better in my opinion :)

Unfortunatley the B4 is all modular and not as universal as RC10 based cars, now that AE discontinued most of their older RC10 parts forces the switch to a newer supported car :(

Anyways, if anyone knows of any other oval towers for the B4 please let me know.

Thanks,
RJ

Very nice Late Model !

Here's a few pics of my first WCM sprint. I had the wheels, nerf bars, bumpers ect. chromed. The wings are aluminum. I could not fit all of our sponsors like the big 360 sprint. I had made "Hoosier" stickers for the tires.

I built it for my best bud Chad, because he's letting me build a track on his acreage and I love him like a brother. He's the one is all black and says, that's awesome dude" ect......

Probably a long shot in the dark but I sold this car a few years ago. It's a vintage chain driven Custom Works Dominator. If anyone has one or knows where one is please let me know as I'd like to buy it/ buy it back.. Surely it would have made it onto someones shelf instead of the track as it was mint from top to bottom... A sale much regretted :(

Hey all..been awhile since I have been on here, but I just recently picked up what appears to be an early wcm 1/4 scale sprint car. apparently was chain driven at one time, but is now belt. This is my first foray into large scale, and while im not really a sprint car fan,(more dirt latemodel, and stadium trucks/monster trucks) timing was right so i picked it up. It looks to be in good order, and runs great, but shocks are missing springs, couple of things need to be adjusted, so I figured I would get back on here again, and do some searchin...I may or may not keep it this way, as I would rather have a functional road or smooth dirt vehicle, or even trade it for a stadium truck in the future...so thats all for now...just thought id say all...

427HISS
08-23-2009, 09:05 PM
That's great. How much did you pay for it ? Any pics yet ?
Yes, the newer wcm's use rubber belts and I'm sure if you contact them, you can buy gears & belts to convert it. They also have new billet shocks and springs.

jturkey69
08-24-2009, 03:29 AM
hmm..I didnt get a notification of a reply..hmm..

anyways, I paid 500, runs great, and a also got a few boxes of hundreds of extra parts, and tires, and a new extra body. I am wondering if I should restore it, or make a bit of a custom roadster or rod, or altered style drag car. Ultimate goal is to finish it one way or another, and sell it to get another one, only offroad.
