View Full Version : Could it work????
I want something that looks realistic. Here is this little cheapy out board that you just slap an engine on. I want to know if I could just hack off where the engine would mount and extend the bracket off the back a little and put a u-jount there and make it an inboard/outboard like a real boat??? :D
The red is what would get hacked off and green points where the u-joint would be and it would enter the hull
I would also get rid of the bar where it mounts to the boat and just a bolt on each side:D

This is what you are looking for. Its an MHZ Z-drive. you can find them at www.mhzusa.com under the drives tab.
It needs to be for a little boat and less then 100bucks:D

Interesting idea... I kinda cringe at the word "hacking" ;) though! Do you have any idea what you would be getting into when you cut of the top? I assume it's hollow in there... Easy epoxy fill, I guess... Second, the shaft would have to be a standard size, like 3/16", for a U-joint to fit. Last, you would have to get the joint of the U-joint lined up with the axis of the hinge or else it would bind up when you turn. Just make sure you leave enough material on there to support the arm where the steering pushrod attaches!

I know Graupner makes a small electro drive that looks very similar to the MHZ show above. Just can't find it on they're website.
