I got my two newest R/Cs in the past weeks. Adds to my huge collection.

Finally got them both done. Two 1/5th scale gas powered R/Cs. I got an '04 Sportsline FG Modelsport racing semi and a MT5 FG Modelsport Monster truck.

The monster truck has a 26cc Zenoah and is stock, the Sportsline semi has the 23cc Zenoah and I added the disc brakes, sway bar kit and soft compound tires.

These vehicles are awesome. Faster than all but the best nitros in stock form. Reliable and durable. Three pulls and it runs for 45 minutes. No stalls, sputters or choking off. NONE. The monster truck hits 45+ on grass and the Semi can easily pull 55+ on a parking lot once the tires warm up. This verified by radar. And the motors are STOCK with can mufflers and gearing.

I haven't touched my nitros since I got these and I plan on selling all my nitros, keeping the electrics and gas cars now that I have them. The difference in reliability and power is remarkable.

My friend has over $1500 in his metal Maxx and he can't keep his hands off the monster. Bigger, faster and handles better. He also likes not having to go get it every few minute because it stalls.

That monster truck is sweet like a massive gp savage. How much gc has it got and how good does it jump? Can you pull flips with it? Maybe you havn't tried to expensive

RuKind

By the look of the cage around the engine he did a flip, on purpuse or not who knows. Very cool thou and at $3.00 a gal. compare to $30.00 a gal for fuel you will end up making up the price differance down the road.

There is not one FG car made that costs $5,500 US. Not one.

Put down the crack pipe. :p

The most expensive full option cars from FG run on average $2,500 for a full out race version F1 car.

But you can get a really nice Sportsline sedan racer with some options for under $1,000 and have an awesome time at the track keeping up with most average sedans.

While there is nothing fancy about my car per se, it is 1/5th scale. It's also pretty quick and seemingly very sturdy. I've bounced it off a few things. I think I am going with a tuned pipe next.

BLOODforBLOOD
07-02-2006, 06:50 PM
the fg line is more then sturdy.I have the mt5 i jump crash bash beat that thing and never broke more then the stock plastic gear and cracked a the plastic motor mount replaced them with steel and aluminum and its a beast.

Nice, anyone have a FG Stadium truck. Thats what I'm thinking about getting.
Would an aftermarket pipe really wake up the stock motor?

swampass,
Nice ride, are those stock tires? It looks awesome.

ScooterTrash
10-28-2006, 09:28 PM
Thanks,Yes there are stock tires 8 inches tall. It is an FG MT-5 Monster With a Jet pro pipe & K&N Air filter with a pre filter & I bought a set of ST Beadlock rim's for it. I was trying to take out the diff. & am having all kinds of problems getting it apart! I am about to find a big garbige can & give it up over $2650.00 in it.

Although your truck is pretty insane, deffinately one of the nicest I've seen.

What makes a ST different than an MT? Is it the tires and gears?

Thanks

Nice truck pp13b,
I wish I had all that alloy :D. I finally picked up my FG MT last weekend. It has a 30.5cc CY w/ 2spd, JetPro tuned pipe and front disc brakes. Its deffinately insane, a little different than my Nitro cars/trucks. I took it out last night when it decided to take off on me , I caught up to it in the brush upside down. I'm in the process of swapping radio gear with my Spektrum equipment, a little preventative maintenance :D .

Just installed my Spektrum today. Deffinately worth it.
My truck is pretty nuts, just stripped out my clutch gear today :( , looking for a new set of steel gears and clutch gears.
I would love to have an FG Stadium truck and alloy my MT but, the alloy parts are sooooooo expensive. I will do a little at a time. First thing first, steel gear/clutch bell set.

Tig
11-22-2006, 06:21 PM
jasrx,
Thats a nice looking pipe, how does it sound. Have you had a JetPro before or is this the first. Just curious, seeing if its compareable to others. How is your MT running? I should be getting my pinion gear Friday or Saturday, cant wait, its kiiling me just looking at my MT.

lil_general_lee,
 Thats NICE, I've made the same mistake a few times. It makes me mad just thinking about it.

lil_general_lee
12-10-2006, 08:27 PM
Thanks,
I'll get another one some day when I get the money, I really loved it which is a shame I never got to use it.... Smaller scale is fun but the realism of the larger scale is awsome (I want to see 4 wheel Hydraulic Disks on 1/10 :) ) I'm trying to move to Australia which is expensive and not easy, so the RC's are really suffering. Which also it seems like many people here are from Australia, or I'm just noticing it more. Also I think RC is far more expensive in Aus because of the currency exchange :(

OutFrontFrames
03-09-2007, 05:03 PM
Thanks..I love the performance. Other than the pipe I haven't done anything. My metal servo gear set showed up today and my 20% stiffer rear springs should show up next week. I also installed my Helios / Spektrum combo as soon as the car showed up. I am toying with shock oils and diff fluid weights right now and the new body should be done next week.
As soon as I get some time, I am going to make all of the flat aluminum parts from carbon including front and rear shock towers and bead locks from carbon fiber.

I wouldnt worry about people flaming on you in here. 1/5 scale is not very poular in this Forum
The FH is a great car. From my understanding most FG parts will fit your FH. I will warn you though, its very addictive. Once you start to mod them you wont know how to stop. There are tons of mods available.

hey how come every one like the buggeys I am a truck freak

balang_479
03-24-2007, 07:19 AM
because i think the HPI is so much better than most other 1/5, it looks good and goes extremely well from what ive seen, (Bartson2Vegas HPI challenge). and looks like its made very well... i think the Firehammer ( like all Duratraxes) looks a bit cheapy.

Tig
03-24-2007, 10:30 AM
leadfoot,
people seem to like the buggy for its scale look, thats the first impression. They also handle like you wouldnt beleive. There suspension is awesome. I am to a Truck fan, thats why I have an MT. I am just so caught up in the this Baja binge. After all of the videos I have seen of it in action its truely an amazing buggy.

Balang,
Not to sound like a dick, I think you probably could've left out the last line of your comment. If you think about it, Duratrax and FGs are pretty much the same layout, there are few differences, the most obvious being the bodies. Other than that they are pretty identicle. Thats my .02

leadfoot113
03-24-2007, 11:01 PM
ya but I really don't think that 1.000 bucks is cheap! I may be old and have five kids have you seen the videos on the FH I went too those other forums and they all think that they are for beginners !!!!!!!!!!!! I don"t think so

Tig
03-25-2007, 11:13 AM
well, $1K is definately not cheap.
I wouldnt go by others impressions, if you do, you're in the wrong hobby. Theres going to be a lot of people out there who are Brand Loyal and will put down any bodies car regardless of what it is. There's one guy inparticular who loves MCDs and dogs every FG out there. Me, I'm not into spending $1400 for a roller then another $1K+ for everything else, just to have 4 wheel drive.
It doesnt matter what they think. I have seen quite a few videos of FHs in action, they look and perform just like a Marder. In fact they are pretty much identicle to a Marder. Forget about those clowns who have to bash others rides. You get what you like and what you can afford to get into Large Scale, PERIOD. If they dont like it F them.

balang_479
03-25-2007, 12:58 PM
Their probably built amazingly, but ive never had a good feeling about Duratraxes, its just me. Some of their designs in smaller scale machines dont seem very good, like the Warhead, the steering is horrible and heavy and everythign is just so crammed.
Its just that personally i would always choose the Baja 5B over the Duratrax 1/5, but its just my opinion.

leadfoot113

Ran about 5 tanks through the baja today :D This thing is fun to drive. But it's a little slower off the line than I thought it would be. I guess I need to get a better pipe. But it jumps great and it's way tougher than I thought it would be also. I cartwheeled it a few times and not a crack anywhere on it. But I got it good and dirty :D

4DMNYC,
That should be the first thing you do to it, a decent pipe. They really wake up those motors. You do have quite the collection to.

lead,
they make a 2 spd for our trucks and buggys not for the Baja, not yet.

4DMNYC
03-26-2007, 09:36 AM
Yeah I was looking around the hpibaja forum and It seems the jetpro pipe is the way to go. Definitly going to get that this week.
I was cleaning it up last night and I noticed the pull start housing gets filthy inside. I had to pull it off to get it poperly cleaned out, but it was easy to do. Can't wait to burn a few more tanks through it.

If ya have any questions about that thing let me know. Also I think you said you had been there but sign up at hpibajaforum.com
Things to watch for:
weak shock shafts
make sure the diff is filled (some came empty)
check all the shock caps and make sure they are tight
shove a piece of foam in the side pods, it will help keep the junk out.
Thats all I can think of at the moment.

leadfoot,
I actually just got my Baja, I havent even started it yet. I will be taking it out today. If I have any problems I will post them up when I get back.
As for the back orders. I dont think the industry expected such a boom with these little rascals. Its amazing how popular they are.

i was at the not so local hobby shop the other day (45 min away) just hanging out basically, and an older gentleman came in with one of the baja 5bs and could stop raving about it. said it was his first rc ever and loved it. the more i read about these things the more i want one. just cant afford a $1050 dollar purchase just yet. maybe if i sell the drumset. i did notice that the front wheels were held on by a simple e clip. doesnt seem like a very sturdy construction, sacrificial piece maybe (to save bigger more expensive parts) anybody else have this problem with the e clips falling off? does look incredible, though.

leadfoot,
Thats good to hear. Nothing major. I just stopped by my local Moto shop and picked up some oil. I should be up and running very soon.
I did take my FG MT out last night. Put frsh gears and a nice fresh tank of gas and fully synthetic oil, it was like a brand new truck. Sucker flies.

zepplin,
I know how you feel man, I wanted one pretty bad to. I started selling all of my Electric and Nitro to fund this Gasser addiction. You should check out Ebay. Heck go run over to HPIBajaForum.com and check there classified section, seems to be a lot of them for sale lately. I wouldnt sell the drums, yet lol. I havent heard much about the clips being a problem, that is on the list of extras to get though. Go check out that site and join. Great guys with tons of info.

any baby news yet :)

Tig
05-19-2007, 04:29 PM
whats up leadfoot, hows everything going
You know to be perfectly honest, I've used K&N filters on my 1:1 trucks for years without a problem.
Since I have been intoduced to LargeScale gassers, they dont seem to have the greatest reputation (dont know why) with gasser folk.
I use these guys http://www.teamgonads.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=3220&Category_Code=hpiint.
They make them for stock and aftermarket filters.
I was reading about someone who used a TGN Redneck after a run and it was a mess, he took off the redneck and the interior filter looked brand new, not one spec of dirt. I will try to find the link so you can see it.

You can also use these http://www.teamgonads.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=7300&Category_Code=hpiint

You can never be too safe. Thats my modow :). Plus its all about maintenance, a properly maintaned filter will do its job. Clean them every 2 to 3 runs, or depending on what your running in, every run.

Thanks for asking about my "baby news"
So far so good, shes on schedual. My wife is getting very big and very uncomfortable. We wish she would come now.

Thanks again for asking
I hope this info helps out.

I was looking into getting into 1/5 scale monster trucks. Since I began looking some time ago I looked primarily at FG. I then recently found the MCD brand of monster trucks.

I've only heard of one person hearing any thing about MCD and it was with durability issues. Wondering if any of you have any input about the FG and MCD monster trucks.

NiCad
07-11-2007, 08:59 AM
I will say this, personally never seen a broken MCD. These guys have replaced some parts. Bob can fill us in as to what breaks and what doesn't.

FG is a great truck, lacks the 4wd though. That makes a huge difference in your 1/5 scale fun. Come winter well the MCD is waaay more fun.

leadfoot113
07-14-2007, 06:41 PM
Hey TIG were can I get a custom body made for my FH ?

Tig
07-14-2007, 11:33 PM
RDucky,
They are both very good trucks. Granted the MCD has 4WD BUT, it comes at a price. 1500 for a roller and 2100+ RTR
I seriously doubt you'll have any issues with an FG in the winter time, I had an MT and it went through anything and everything without a problem. Remember these trucks weigh in excess of 30lbs. Mine had a 30.5cc, Jet Pro and 2 speed. NOTHING got in its way or could stop it, period.
I do beleive the suspension in the MCDs are little better handling than the FGs. FGs seem to bounce more than soak up the rough stuff.

Lead,
Do you mean a custom painted body? Or litterally a custom made, one off body?
Still havent heard about the 2 speed either. Now that I think about it, he never called me back:mad:

NiCad
07-15-2007, 12:59 AM

More from Large Scale RC.

http://www.youtube.com/user/cat5mfg

4wd is just better when it comes to true off roading. The guys at Large Scale RC have had them all and their choice is MCD. This what they have for their personal RC's they run.

Not taking anything away from others. FG is AWESOME they have great product with more hop ups then you can imagine.

Baja 5B plain and simply put. Most fun for the money.

MCD big fun big money.

NiCad,
Do you own a large scale?
I've seen those videos. The tug-o-war is not a fair comparison, period.
Theres no doubt that 4x4s can go more places, that doesnt make them better by any means. I have also seen many FG owners go in similiar if not worse terrain and come out on top.
I can tell this is going to be another FG vs MCD flame war. Why dont we just bury the hatchet and enjoy them for what they are. Big loud fast gas consuming machines.

Here's my Baja after freshening up and a new body. Upgrades are Promatch 3800 mah matched RX pack, HPI light kit, 29cc stroker with stuffed crank, DDM Dominator pipe, metal gear upgrade in the steering servo, 10,000 rpm clutch and of course Spektrum RX for my M11. Oh, and it runs on Coleman lantern fuel (I don't have a garage and I couldn't stand the thought of leaving it outside because of fumes).
When I run on the street I have a set of Tarmacs and it will pull wheelies on demand.

Thanks, I used a white paint marker. It lasts quite a while before it rubs off.

I found this browsing the web. A new manufacture bringing back old school largescale with real price that people can afford. This 1/4 buggy sells for 1350.00 without a motor or you can get with stock motor shown for 1500.00. The buggy is full aluminum with independant suspension with adjustable gearing, a roll cage and a molded body not shown. Other projects in the works are a monster truck just like the origional well known New Era monster truck. A pulling truck and a onroad racer.:D
