Hi, I own a kit rc sailboat.. but I think I would like to eventually build a larger model. I think models with rollerfurling jibs and mains would be very interesting, and useful in strong winds. I also want something I can sail through the surf at the ocean, and I suspect to achieve this I would need to build it myself. Does anyone have a list of links, or some information to point me in the right direction to the types of websites that specialize on more complicated model sailboat construction?

Thanks for any information.

A good place to start is the American Model Yachting Association's website (www.amya.org) as they have a great links section of builders, suppliers. etc. for those folks who construct their own sailcraft.

Hi gumby
One thing that I have just realised recently is that everything to do with models is to scale. In other words if a 10 mile per hour wind will drive a boat 5 miles per hour, and your scale is 1/4" = 1 ft then your equivalent scale speed is 120 miles per hour. waves would be the same effect. a 1 foot wave in the ocean(not much) would be to scale at 24feet high. that's some wave. I just came to realise this when i found it difficult to control my Creole Queen Steamboat, a 4 foot boat. I also have a large scooner that I made from a kit that was salvaged from an attic clean out.

Hey!!!
doesn't anybody even look at these things. I made a big error on the size of the waves to scale. It should be a 1 foot wave at 1/4 inch=1foot would be 48 feet high on your boat.
