I haven't been into RC for years now, and I'm telling a friend of mine about this truck they used to make, but I can't remember the name. It was an electric truck that was made as a real truck replica. It had a real steel frame and chassis, 5-speed gearbox and transfer case to shift from 2wd to 4wd on the fly. It wasn't all that fast, being heavy and all steel, but it was cool because it was like a mini version of a real truck with a solid axle and differential and everything. I think it was modeled after a Toyota, but I'm not sure. Anyone know the name???

It sounds like a Tamiya Bruiser, Mountineer or Hilux. They had 3 speed gearboxes.

No, the Tamiya big rigs have 3 speed gear boxes. Probably people are thinking of a 3 or 5 step mechanical speed control. The bruiser had a gear box that allowed you to select 2wd high, 4wd high, or 4wd low.

The old Hilux/Bruiser gearbox had 3 forward gears in 2WD and was locked into low-gear in 4WD, which it could also shift into on-the-fly.

The HiLux was the original, with a stepside bed and smaller tires. The Blazing Blazer came next with a Baja-style Blazer body with wing on the top. The Bruser was several years later with a different bed on the Toyota body and much bigger 2.2" truck tires (Off the Blackfoot). The Mountaineer was released in the early 90s and was basically the Bruiser without the mini-camper on the bed.

Nice, I knew you guys would come through. I was thinking of the Bruiser/Mountaineer, didn't know about the Hilux. Thanks

I remembered differently from when I used to sell these at the LHS I worked at but before I said anything I wanted to verify so I stopped by my LHS to consult with a buddy who still owns several of these. The Hilux/Bruiser/Mountaineer had 2 foward gears and 1 4wd gear. They consisted of 2wd high, 2wd low, and 4wd low. While many people did shift on the fly between the 2wd gears the gearbox was really not designed to do so so many people ended up needing to replace gears. The shift on the fly transmissions did not come into play until the King Hauler.

OK, I have never been fortunate enough to own one, so I will defer to first-hand experience on this one.

Mountaineer is the one I would like to have Or a complete rolling chassis and I pick me own body would work too.
