View Full Version : Stupidest thing I have ever seen at the track!

O man, I was at the track today for the Wednesday race, and I just had to share this! We were racing on the carpet, and all of a sudden this gun walks in. He had a RTR TC4, and some cheapo stick packs, and sorta looked new to the hobby. None of these things I have a problem with, its always great to get new people in on the fun. The problem came, when he takes out his tires. Most guys true their tires at the track, he'd obviously heard from someone that truing your tires a little more than the way them come (if they are already pre-trued i.e. TRC, sometimes Jaco, etc.) increases turn-in and handling. Anyway, he takes out these two big strips of sandpaper, and tapes them to his table. Anyone see where this is going yet? Anyway, he plugs his pack in, and just starts giving the car throttle. He then gentle held the car down so the wheels were just barely touching the sandpaper. HOLY COW! there were little bits of foam all over his table! Sorta like a fine black dust storm.

Anyway, for those of you who think of other buget minded alternatives, please don't try this at home (or at the track for that matter). Ironically, the guy wasted the tires as well as about 30$. They chuncked a whole bunch, made as mess, didn't wear evenly, and the front and rear wheels came out completely different due to the tuning of the differential.

Definitly the STUPIDEST thing I have ever seen. I went over to him after he had sorta cleaned things up, recommend the Team Cobra truer as a relatively cheap alternative to some more expensive options, and another racer was nice enough to loan him some old tires. (I would have done the same, but I was racing my Carpet Knife)

Talk about a newbie mistake :p

lol, you know i watched a guy do almost the same thing a couple years back. only this guy put the car on a stand and used an exacto (sp) knife. by the time he was done, all 4 tires were different sizes and about as true as crushed beer can. lol

haha, it would be funny to see, but you could offer him your tire truer next time you see a guy taping sandpaper to a table.. :D

LOL, The stupidest thong I saw was a guy with a B3 and he had regular tires and wheels in front, but Stampede wheels and tires in the back. Lets say, he didnt finish. I also saw another guy with a stick pack taped to the body, another guy who started racing, got onto the back stretch, opened throttle, and I watch the P2k2 Pro wizz by my face at a real fast speed. Thats about it.

well that's quite funny, wonder how the guy felt after , that he just wasted a set of tires , cuz everyone was too busy laughing at him , to offer their help before he wrecked them.. I relize we all have a learning curves, but dont wait to offer help till after it's too late... it's a hobby were suppose to share our knowledge...

yeah dude
you should have stopped in and helped the guy out once the sandpaper came out, lol

That kinda reminds me a funny R/C story. This one buddy of mine (now granted this guy is far from a newbie, he has been racing for many years, but he is one of those guys who is just a little off). anyway, he is breaking in a motor, he decided to lean over for some stupid reason, now this would'nt be an issue, but the guy has long hair. Needless to say, his hair gets wrapped around the motor shaft and all you heard was THUD..the motor, stand and all, hit his head with some mad force, lol
they had to cut it out of his hair, lol
a headache ensued. hehe

I don't think he felt to good. Its a funny story, but in a way its kind of sad :( Like I said, I would have offered to loan him my truer, or some spare tires, but I was running 1/12 scale pan, and not 1/10 sedan. The 1/12 scale and 1/10 tires use a different arbor on the truer, so that wouldn't have worked, and 1/12 tires most definitly don't fit on a 1/10 scale. Still you guys are right, I probably should have suggested another alternative as soon as I saw the sandpaper :D Still that the guys at the track managed to salvage the situation, and I don't think the guy was turned away from the hobby. Once he got some different tires on there, he seemed to have a blast at the race.

okay, i think THE funniest think i've ever seen, was today... my friend came over and asked for some CA glue... i was like, okay, sure, here ya go... handed him the glue... turned around, and looked back to see him glueing his pinion onto the motor with the CA glue... i almost coughed up my drink i was like noooo! dont do that... but it was 2 late, but it was so funny... he glued the bearings, the pinion, the pinion to the spur, and his hand to the pinion to the spur gear... it was sooooooooooooooooooooo funny, i almost died... kinda felt badly for him tho... i offered him the new parts, cause i felt badly... it was funny

Why would he do that? Funniest thing I have ever seen was I was driving my truck on my farm and one of my freinds shows up on his quad and doesn't see my truck, well I hit him at about 20 mph (well, thats what my Evaders rated at) because he ran overto my front door. The truck parked it self up his leg and he goes "Hey I think your little truck likes me!" then he kicked it off and the tire fell off.

Funniest thing was watching this kids rally tc3 take on the modified truck class, wow. That car really isn't up to taking a tripple jump, lets just say it had a laundry list of new parts going to the lhs across the way. I've also seen guys hit the corner and just fly straight off into the pits, but now thats fixed with a bigger/stronger/taller wall.

This isn't something that I saw but something I read on here, but its a funny story (to me at least). Some guy hooked a motor up to a 4 cell pack for break in, and he had a break-in fan on the shaft. I can't remember if he sprayed motor spray in the motor while it was running or if he had just sprayed some before, but whatever it was, the motor caught fire some how. He dropped it, and because it had the fan, it kinda jumped around his pit, on fire, hauling the 4 cell pack behind it.

wow, I wouldn't wanna race on a track with some one that disrespectful, even if the honda was to close, he should have said he would make a effort to pay for it, a few ppl acting like that could give all the fine people in our hobby a bad name.
