this info is all good but I think the 18mt and the mini zilla are bigger scale trucks 1/18
I am looking in to the smaller scale trucks like the mini-z monster 1/28 scale and the
mini giant 1/20 scale,

The Mini Giant and the RC18MT are virtually the same size. Honestly, the RC18MT is far and away the best truck mentioned in this thread. Seriously, nothing else even comes close.

The Leo and the Mini Giant are indeed the EXACT same truck, and they're pretty solid. They're fairly upgradable, and pretty cool stock, but parts can be tricky to get sometimes. All in all, they're good trucks, but parts can be hard to get. If that's not a problem, it'd a be a good choice.

The Mini-Z Monsters are alright...but I don't care for them. They're well engineered (they are Kyosho's after all), but they're more for looks than performance. They're cool, but for what you pay, I don't think they're very good value.

I have no experience with the other two, so I can't really offer much on them.

Honestly, any truck this scale is going to have a tough time in grass. They'd probably all make it through, but it really, really, really works them hard. It's like driving your truck through a field of 2 foot shrubs. There's just a lot of resistance there, and that's going to work batteries and motors to the limit. As such, I can't say I'd suggest anything that runs alkalines. Alkalines lose their punch after about 30 seconds of running anyways (literally, they're made for slow, steady discharge, not a fast, variable discharge), so throwing more of a load at them is going to make performance even worse.

To be honest, if you've go the money, the RC18MT is pretty unbeatable. It's still really small (small enough to be driven in the house), it comes with a good quality rechargable battery, a charger (albeit an overnight one, but a Losi 2 hour charger is only 10 bux), and it's 4WD. It's head and shoulders above every other truck here, in terms of performance, in terms of upgradability, in terms of durability, and in terms of value. If you're looking for something a bit less expensive initially, the Leo X/Venom Mini Giant is a sweet little truck too.

its good for starters right out of the box but go for a better charger , the losi quick charger is decent. the part number to it is LOSB1206. and it runs to be 19.99 wich isnt bad.

I've messed around with all of these:

Mini Giant (aka Leo): Fast out of the box, does wheelies with the alkaline pack, but beware of their non-polarity hook-up (they have a tendancy of exlpoding and ruining your electronics). Switch immediately to a 8.4 hex pack and you'll wheelie all day long.

Mini-Z: the worst of the bunch unless you intend on jumping match books and crawling over pencils. It's only rear wheel drive and not very upgradable. Not only this but for the price it should be at least 4x4

Mini-T: rear wheel drive very good on dirt and streets. Plenty fast for inside or out; plenty of upgradable parts. 2nd best only to the RC18T

Mini Quake: Good truck but breaks lots of parts with the stock motor. Parts are a little exspensive, but the truck can handle a good amount of off roading. The electronics in this truck are questionable; only 2 kinds of tires to choose from.

Size: all these trucks are about the same size minus the Mini-Z. The mIni-z is tiny (slightly bigger than a computer mouse).

Pricing: They all cost close to one another, but the best one toget would be the RC18MT!!

RC18T/MT : Both good vehicles but I would recommend going with the MT. The best micro out their currently!!!! All wheel drive, parts are plentifull and very upgradable

Don't bother running 2 motors. It's really a waste. It won't be any faster (quicker getting to top speed, but top speed is determined by gearing and rpm's, not horsepower). The stock motor in the RC18's is plenty fast, by that I mean 20 mph. That's cookin for a vehicle of that size. If you want to go faster, Trinity, Orion, Reedy, and now LRP all have good motors for them. You don't really need any mods to start off with. CVD's would be my first addition, but wait and see if you have problems with the stock drives first. Extra batteries and a charger that doesn't take 10 hours would be a wise investment. Other than that, drive it to see what you want to upgrade first. The RRM front bumper should go on before you drive it however...to prevent you from breaking stuff.

HTH, I'm a bit tired from work...so I don't know if that makes sense...hopefully it does.

Or you could go brushless. Micro brushless systems aren't too expensive. Less maintenance than brush motors too.

I would recommend the RC18. Very durable, with the exception of a few easy mods you can do yourself.
