I am thinking f making a roll cage for my Revo. I was going to make my own custom cage because I really don't want to buy one and I thought it would be kind of fun to try. Does anyone have any idea of what kind of material I should use to make it. I want it to be kinda lightweight, but at the same time, be able to take a beating. I just don't know what to use yet.

Where would I get Chromoly Tubing. Do they have it at a hardware store or like a Lumber Jack kinda place? How expensive do you think it is, if you know, no big deal if you don't. Thanks.

Scrap yard or a machine shop would sell you some.

Why chromoly tubing??? Thats overkill.
Just get some 3/16 solid rods (cold roll). Home Depot stocks them.
Chamfer the ends before welding. TIG welding makes a great finish if done right.
Remember: Measure twice, cut/weld once.

The reason I think chromoly tubing is good is that it is very strong in relation to its weight. I admit its a bit harder to work with (bending without collapsing the tube), but if your skill permits..... Mine has held up very well through thorough bashing and racing, all that has happened is the powdercoat came off where it contacts the ground.

Just go with the 3/16 cold roll steel rod. Screw chromoly you dont need it. steel rod will hold just as well as the chromoly. :D yes and do tig weld it very nice looking when done nice

Both ideas sound very good. I would like it to be lighter, so the Chromoly tubing would be nice. NPlayer, where did you get your chromoly and how much did you pay for it. If I can't find that or it is too expensive, then I think I will go with the solid tubing. Thanks for both of your responses. They both sound like great ideas.

A guy at my track made my 3-point chromoly rollbar for me. I can ask him when I see him this Sunday where he got the materials. He made a full titanium tube chassis (no plate) for his t-maxx. It is indestructable. I think you should be able to get the chromoly through a local machine or welding shop. Call around. If not I'll ask him when I see him.

you can always braze the tubing or solid rod together, and the cheapest route will be the 3/16" steel rod

3/16 inch stainless steel round rod will make a nice strong cage
