Well it has been run and won but not by me . In the first and second races the controller would cut out during a 5 minute race about 6 times . The car would just stop and after a few seconds it would go again . I reprogrammed it into race mode and this solved the problem . Speed wise against gas cars it showed equal speed up our 35 metre straight but with a 22 mm rollout 9:1 gearing and fairly good GP3300s I was only just making runtime by say 30 seconds . I dropped the motor pinion 1 tooth smaller and the motor actually seemed to get hotter . You could not hold your finger on it for than 3 or 4 seconds , is this to hot ? again i tried running the motor without the pinion (at low speed only) at it sounds awful not nice and smooth and quiet . Can I replace the bearings or is it non rebuildable ? Lastly the MGM is difficult to race with . When I could get my head around the brake issue and just backoff to brake instead of actually applying the brake it was ok but you can't just backoff to get your line right as the darn thing brakes . I guess I will send it in for the software update . Does anyone know for sure if this rectifys the braking issue ????

If the motor got hotter when you dropped a tooth, then it is undergeared (BL motors can get hot even with a load that is too small). 3-4secs. is fine, I am guessing 140-150deg. F. The bearings can be replaced, if you can get the can open (it isn't meant to come off [easily]).

My feigao L can motor came apart pretty easy by tapping the motor shaft on a workbench to pop off the rear endbell. I tried other methods first because I was afraid I might break a magnet by slamming the shaft to pop the motor apart. But, I didn't even have to hit it hard at all and it came apart pretty easy.

If the motor spins freely when spinning it by hand, then there shouldn't be anything wrong with the bearings. Therefore the noise probably has nothing to do with the bearings.

O.K Thanks but what about runtime or will it get better with taller gearing ? I guess I will have to try it and see . Any ideas on the brakes ? does any one know for sure if it is fixable with the upgrade software ?

You may want to try the light brake setting and see if that helps.

Your right about the bearings they seem fine . I tried the light brake setting but it makes no difference the controller applies maximum brake under deceleration so if you go from full throttle to say 1/8 of throttle it brakes super hard to bring you down to speed, but if you back off to much your in the neutral zone and are coasting and have hit the track barriers by now. I can drive like this but it is hard to be competetive. Know of any good u force controllers going cheap ? either that or I might just get the Orion V2 motor as they are fairly low maintenence and hassle free .

Were all waiting on the mamba maxx. The novak gtb/velociti will be a true racing system.

Danielson,

Actually I have been very surprised that people on this board were sponsoting/supporting this MGM ESC !

The brake issue in the MGM make it almost useless for racing.

For me this MGM ESC is a CAR ESC like my Jeti Advance is ... since both have the same behave for braking ... a soft start don't make a BL ESC a CAR ESC !
Jeti ESC are even far more cheap then MGM ESC ! The difference is that Jeti don't pretend to state their BL ESC as CAR ESC !

A cheap alternative it is the Schulze 18.61, if you add a heatsink, and a fun should be quite termal proof. The 18.61 should be available at around 160$ ... if you are with 6cell, you don't really need a BEC, some RX have an integrated BEC, most of RX and Servo work fine with 6cell power !

I have tested on track and in some races (I was illegel in these races, but nobody notice/complain for it) ... I can say that already the 18.61 is a smooth as a decent CAR Brushed ESC ... so comparable to my GM SX6. The U-75 should be even better and with more programmable options ...

Thanks for suggestion . I have found a person locally who has a U Foce and Hacker C40 6S for sale . I figure if I sell the hacker and my MGM along with my brushed speedy I should not have to fork out so much extra. Anyone for an MGM8012 or Hacker C40 6S ? I think the feigao 380 6S along with a decent controller will be a good setup ? I wish I had known of the difficultys of the MGM before I got it, but I had an itch to get going and its all a new learning kerb .

How much for the MGM and 6s? Did you need to use a special mount to get that into a 540 type viechle?

Hi Re-Mix I would like $350 AUD or $260 USD for the MGM8012 (only 2 weeks old) and the hacker C40 6S . The hacker needs no additional mounts to fit into a 540 space and is in a heatsink can . (I had to make a mount for the feigao motor as the mounts are closer) . I have altered the capacitor position and the wiring on the mgm to make it more compact, I have also fitted a heatsink to the lower side to move away the heat . I will also include the instructions decals and original package . Can take paypal or Credit card .
Regards Dan :)

Danielson, If you get the c40 6s, would you mind comparing it to the feigao 380 6s and posting here or pm? They are very similar sized motors and should have an interesting comparison.

Ahh no thanks then, don't need a modified MGM lol. Guess the money will go towards some GP3700's and the new Novak Ionic
