The novak is a great system. It's just a little on the slow side.

The Novak 5800 performance will depend on what your used to. It's not BORING slow.

I'd wait for the new Novaks. They are listed at $240 at Towerhobbies for the system.

The only deal with the xx4 is that it has limited space for electronics if I remember, you need a compact esc and motor. It seems a lot of the rc world is going back to the xx-4, losi racers have supposedly switched to them for the worlds.

I was able to fit the Novak SS5800 in my XX4. The ESC fit fine, the trouble was all of the wires. You only need an inch or 2 of wire in an XX4 because the motor is right next to the ESC. Since I planned to move my Novak SS around, I didn't cut the wires, so it got crowded. The motor/body clearance might have been tight too, I don't remember.

The Novak has a reputation for being glitchy, and I did have some problems with glitching when I put mine in with all of that extra wire running on top of the batteries and next to the receiver. Twisting the motor wires helped quite a bit. I would have run it racing this year, except the 4WD drive class runs spec-19 motors only, so the Novak moved to my T3.

I only ran a pack or 2 thru the xx4 with the novak, so I can't talk about long-term problems in that installation, but it did fit.

If you are going to race, the Novak SS5800 is fine. It is very fast compared to most brushed motors. You have to get down to a pretty low-turn brushed motor to keep up, and all of the maintenace to go with it.

I've had numerous people comment how fast and punchy my T3 is this year at the track.

For the bashers out there, the European systems have more power, especially with higher battery cell counts (which you will not be able to fit in an XX4 anyway).

The 5800 should be under $200 at tower if you use a coupon.

Or wait another month and get the new Novak GTB system, it should be around 250 and the 5.5 turn is going to have excellent power.

It will be interesting to see how much torque this motor does or doesn't have. I was looking at a setup sheet from one of the novak drivers (can't remeber the name right now) and in a touring car he was using a 128 spur and a 21 pinion!!! That is a seriously slow gear ratio, like 11:1 in a Jrx-s. This may have been a prototype 4.5 turn motor that Charlie and ......... (can't remember the other guy's name) ran.

Well the 5.5 should have around 9000 kv based of the ss5800's kv. More like 6800 under a 25% load.

I don't think it'll have 9000Kv - the ratio between turns and Kv isn't a linear scale(atleast not in the real world) I would hope for 7000Kv though, same as a Hacker c40 6s
