Hi,
my rather new warrior died today after driving for about 4 minutes.
I used it in a converted 1:8 buggy with 12 gp cells and a Feigao 9L.

I'm not quite sure why this would happen since the controller has a protection against overheating and I didn't drive at full speed anyway..

bye,
felix

Which model Warrior do(did) you have?

A 9920 with 4 caps.

What happened to it exactly? What physical damage was there? Any smoke? I have gone through 2 Warrior 9918's and a MGM Compro 120amp, so maybe I can provide some assistance.

Hi,
I wanted to attach an image but it seems like that didn't work.

It stopped while I was driving and started to smoke quite a bit.

Hi have the 9920 too, and after change to Lipos I start to have problems with the BEC( starts to melted).
I disable the BEC, puting one external pack, and problems goes.

I think maybe can be the same case of you. Because in picture it looks like the melted part of your ESC it's the BEC part.

BK says the BEC should work with 12 cells...
On the other hand, when I used the 7L motor the controller regularly overheated and apparently the BEC chip got so hot that the heatshrink melted.

I don't think the main reason was the BEC in that case, the controller just got so hot that the bottom part without the cooler went over the melting point of the heat shrink..

That's why I bought the 9L. ;)

This it's the theory, but.......

I have an 8L with 12 cells and a big 12v fan cooling motor and ESC and when I go to Lipos (12cells too, infact 2 packs of 2S) , after some minutes the BEC starts to fail, and in fact it's a little bit melted.

I think the BEC feature in 9920 it's not soo good.

Lehner has never really been know to have a good BEC circuit in their stuff.

Everything i've read about the warriors says that you need a reciever pack or a u-bec

When running 12 cells or 4 S lithium you could be greating more heat in the bec circuit then the mosfets used to drive the motor. If you have a single servo that isn't under too much load(touring car) then its usually fine. If you have a monster truck with heavy wheels then the BEC will get very hot very fast. If there is any binding in the linkage that will also create BEC heat in a hurry.

I have a converted 1:8 GS Storm with a Hitec 5945MG so it's quite a powerful servo.
I've already bought an external BEC and a small CPU cooler and soldered the needed cables to use it.
With external BEC (http://cx4.de/rc/storm12.jpg)
Didn't like the additional cables though, so I tried getting by with the internal BEC..
I've ordered a 12020 now and will send in the broken one.
Worry a bit about wrecking the new one too since I'm not sure why went wrong this time... Maybe it simplay got damaged when in ran the 7L and internal BEC, seemed to me like something melted at that point which nearl glued some dirt in, when the heat shrink melted.

Keep in mind that 4S lipoly is more like running 13-14 cells due to the higher voltage under load.

Is that a conversion from Mr Constructor by chance on the GS Storm??

Yeah, that's what I was wondering danhfvcsd.

Anyway, I have a Warrior 9918 and have always run it with an external UBEC and have never had a problem, even with 4s lipos. Your controller is pretty melted though, I'm not sure it was the bec that caused that.

Yes, that's the one made by mr. constructor.

Does anyone have some good way how to deal with the ubec cables besides shortening them? ;)

as in - keeping em outta the way/making it neat or whatever?

Maybe you could try heatshrink wrapping a small bundle? When i say bundle - i mean like, folded up wire kinda thing....dammit - i hate my explanation skills! Does anyone get me? -lol-
