hey everybody, how's it going? I'm in need of a little help. I've got a traxxas villian IV, and noticed two pots on the esc. One's labled neutral and the other proportional. I got the boat from a friend and it doesn't have any instructions. Are these pots "DFW" or do they need to be adjusted to obtain an optimum setup? Also, can anyone recommened which prop's to upgrade to?

Hey,
The ESC adjustments are piece of cake. They're probably fine the way they are, but if your throttle trim is way over, the motors do not run in sync, or you think you're not getting full throttle, get out a miniture slotted screwdriver and your battery packs and do a little tweaking.

The "Neutral" trim screw adjusts where the neutral throttle position is. Just plug in your batteries, turn on your RX, and center your throttle trim on your TX. Then, get your screwdriver ready and turn on your TX. Then, just fiddle with the screw on each ESC until you get your neutral in just the right position (motors stopped, but a little push on the throttle and they start moving)

Once you get your "Neutral"s adjusted, you can set your "Proportional" screws. These define where the full throttle position is. Basically, turn everything on and peg the throttle while moving the "Proportional" screw back and forth. You should be able to hear the motor speeding up and slowing down. Stop turning the screw as soon as the motor speeds up to the maximum RPMs -turning it past that point does nothing. Probably with a boat with two motors, you'd want to unplug one motor at a time and set the full throttle limits separately so you can hear better. There may be more scientific methods of determining the maximum RPM position, but I haven't tried them, so I can't help you there.

Thats all there is to it. Oh, if you still want more reading material, check out the Traxxas website. They probably have a Villian IV manual in the "Marine" section. Check out this thread for hop-up info: http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=199480
