I got my 8s and controller installed today. I took it out for a few runs and I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the system. However I am not impressed with the speed of the unit. I have another Rustler with the SS5800 and SuperSport Plus and it seems just as fast to me.
I ran it on 6 and 7cells. It had virtually no cogging which is great. And the braking issue I've read about is not an issue for me. Overall it is going to be a good system for me.
What is a good gearing to get good speed and good take off. I am running 16/81 right now and I think that is a little hot for the system. Any suggestions here? Thanks in advance.

The best gearing is whatever the motor heats up the least on. Try gearing up and down, and find the "sweet spot".
In my Rustler I run 18/87 on 8s and u-force (for comparision). What's amazing to me is in the winter time I can run 20/87 no problem. My younger son's SS5800 is almost as quick as my older son's Schultze 18.61/Lehner 4200. The difference though is the torque and the fact you can and more cells to the u-force, 18.61 or in you case the MGM 8012.
Batteries make a big difference do you have good batteries?

The SS and the 8S (which is a little slow on six cells by the way) have pretty close numbers on the rpm/v. So they will have the same speed. The schulze and lehner setups will be far more efficent and have more torque though. I know that Novak says their motor does 5800rpm/v but that is not an underload spec like with lehner that tests their motors under load. Really the Novak is proabably pushing 4000-4500 under load, but wasting alot of energy in the form of heat.

I have pretty good batteries. Reedy black label 3300's and gp3300's.

How old are the batteries. Running batteries on modified and brushless motor really degrades them fast. Higher power brushless systems really shine when they can draw the juice that they want.
