Hey guys just wondering if anyone has the HV-Maxx in their E-Maxx. I d like to know because I m interested in purchasing a brushless motor and it is the availible setup for me right now. So i was hoping if you own the setup if you could post how its performs, what kind of upgrades you needed to make to have it handle the power upgrade ( not specific upgrades just for the HV-Maxx but all BLs in general ), what kind of cells you use and how many cells you use.
all help would be most appreciated

my boss has one and ive seen it run. almost beat a jato on the track. he has all the aluminum suspension arms, a gorilla chassis, and matched 3300 cells. he also uses the novak fan on the ESC cuz it gets so hot.

I have heard that the HV-Maxx likes to thermal, and isn't all that great. You can get a similarly priced sensorless system with a lot more power, and then you aren't limited to any one motor.

It's got pro's and con's. I'm running it now. It does run hot and I'm at 72/12. Turned my EMAXX into a wheelie machine. Get a wheelie bar or learn throttle control.(bars more fun though) First one burnt up but novak had me out a new one in only a few days.

My HV has never thermaled (knocking on wood), and I run 66/13 with 12 matched Integy 2400s. When I put new friction pegs on the truck and lock the slipper down, it will flip on it's lid violently and I have the bomb-proof torpedo chassis (2.5in longer than stock). That same night I went through both diffs and the front sliders. The only upgrades I have are the CVDs in the front and the extended rear center dogbone. The powerband is so smooth I can shift into second w/o letting off the throttle, something I could never do w/ the titans. The tracks around her (Greenville, NC) don't allow you to get past 35mph on the straight, which is about where my E-maxx tops out at. I may upgrade to 7 cell IB3800 packs later, but I haven't decided yet.
If you run ANY of the sensorless systems (9L/9920, 7XL 9920, lehner, pletty, etc.) you will have to upgrade to CVDs all around, steel idlers, possibly aluminum diff cases, etc. Those systems are more powerful than 2 HVs at the same time (info from one of the forum members, but I can't find it now).

The reason your diffs went is because you locked the slipper. Wheelies are fun. Replacing diffs isn't.

When I put new friction pegs on the truck
Once the friction pegs where down, which is usually are one run, there is not a problem with diffs. Spurs melt and strip if I don't lock the slipper. Wheelies are not good for racing, which is why I bought the extended chassis.

Can anyone use over 16 cells on their hv and see what the maxx voltage is?

The FETs are probably rated to 30 volts or some more. You can definitely use more than 16 cells, that's for sure. However, that voids warranty, and pushes the limits of the board/FETs. The ESC will wear out simply quicker. But yeah, good question. :)

I'm running it with 14 gp3300's and the controls not more than abient air tempeture after a full bash session. It doesn't get any where near hot. The motor on the other hand is what's getting hot.

lately I ve been getting mixed impressions on the system so thats whats been confusing me. Does anyone know if running with a fan on the ESC or on the Motor helps at all or is it just a waste or voltage ?

Fans definately help. I use one on my schulze/plettenberg setup and the difference is huge. I just use a fan on the controller when I race touring cars and the controller temps are easily 20 to 30 degrees cooler.

I had mine a complete new stock setup ran stock gearing never thermaled on me and I ran it in the sand for the full 11mins or so WOT. I even ran a dual HV setup no thermals...

thanks electric and tomato, I run my evx up to max voltage, and would consider brushless novak if it would take 16 or so. Sounds like I may just try it. I am stil waiting for li-pos too. Maybe 5s would be good.

Whoa, I say go for it and hang on. Are you using 10 cells or more?

I would say don't bother, get a motor designed for lighter cars like yours and run it on lots of cells like you would a HV. A rusty on 10 cells with a Lehner Basic motor would be waaay too fast for any track :)
