There isn't a lot of time to much of anything when they blow over at those speeds. The turbines take a while to slow down.

Let me fill in the story behind the flip. It was 1988 in San Diego, John Prevost was driving. If the whole event was in the vid, you would see the Merlin powered U-2 Oberto leading BOTH the Turbiine powered Circus and the brand new Turbo-Allison powered Miss Madison, driven by Ron Snyder. A freak wind got under both the Circus and Madison, flipping both. The Madison was lucky, landing upside down, cushioned by the Oberto's rooster tail, while the Circus did the flip you saw. As far as I know, neither Prevost or Snyder ever raced again, though both boats were repaired and raced the next season. One little FYI, the Circus in the vid started out as the 1984 Turbine Atlas Van Lines with Chip Hanauer as the driver

I can't d/l the video to see which angle it was taken from but I was there. If the video has a bridge in the background and a paddle wheel boat in front of that, I was on it. There is a wicked gust of wind that comes under that bridge and has caused a number of flips on Mission bay. The pits are just south of the bridge on what is called va0cation island. There is another bridge near the pits that has put a few other boats over.

The video was shot from the boat's front right corner. No bridges were visable , only the Madison's rooster tail(for as long as it lasted) and the distant hillside
