Park Pilot (http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hobbico/hcaa2003.html) - Aero Voyager (http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hobbico/hcaa1981.html) - Wing Dragon (http://www.hobby-lobby.com/wingdragon.htm)

The Easy Star Ready-To-Fly ($170 shipped (http://www.northstarrc.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_62_107&products_id=628)) is one of the best beginner fliers . . very resilient and durable foam construction . . more protected pusher-prop design . . glider like flying characteristics . . 72MHz model airplane frequency radio (as compared to 27MHz open frequency radio).

The Hobbyzone planes are a great place to start.

I started off with the Firebird Scout, and still use it. I have the Firebird iist now. Waiting on parts to fix a major crash.

For under $100, the Hobbyzone Firebird IIST and the Hobbico FlyZone Mini Ventura are two of my favorite picks:

Which one is best depends on which plane your local hobby store. Find out which plane they typical stock spare parts for, and go with that one. Extra wings, tail assemblies, and propellers will likely be on your shopping list.

Smaller, less expensive planes like the Megatech Firefly, the Hobbyzone Firebird Scout, and the Megatech Cosmic Flyer aren't bad options, but they will require ALMOST COMPLETELY CALM conditions to fly in. With the the larger, more powerful Firebird IIST or Mini Ventura, flying in slightly windy conditions will be much easier.

Good luck, and let us know what you decided to try.
