Hi, Im going to step it up a bit and get a brushless fo rmy tc3. Im not worried about torque, but I am worried that it wont be as fast as I wanted it to be... Does anyone have a SS5800 in their tc3-4's? does anyone have a video of it so i can see if I should get it? any other suggestions for brushless combos i would like better for about the same price? thanks in advance, i know next to nothing about the choices of brushless combos.

If you can afford it get the new LRP combo, its supposed to be quite a bit faster than the SS5800.

try the lehner basic 5300 with a bk 7018 they sell them at fine design rc the lehner motor weighs about half as much as a regular 540 motor its about the same price as a neo sphere set-up

When it comes to speed, volts are your friend. Go 3+ lipo cells and you'll be fast without trying.

But the SS5800 can only handle up to 7 cells...

I would get lipo cells, but they are too expensive and dangerous, plus i'd need another charger. The reason i was thinking the SS5800, was because I might trade a guy on here for his used one. do you think i should, or keep looking?

Whoops. Didn't realize the 7 cell part. I bought my mamba used off Jamie at starluckrc and its been perfect. Buying used cars usually sucks, but the mamba worked out for me.

Is price much of an issue? You can get a much more powerful setup with a few extra bucks man - just thinking as if you're looking for speed - you're gonna want to run more then 7 cells....and the novak won't do that for ya.

Try looking at the Feigao motors and MGM controllers maybe? Just thinking that way cause you can add more cells if you want to the controller, and you can choose the motor to suit ur voltage :)

The novak is quite quick tho - but if you want real speed - go higher...i'll throw some rubbers on my yokomo some time this week and post a video of it if ya want :) I know it isn't a tc3 - but it'll give you an idea i guess?

There are videos of the novak in a stampede at www.swami-rc.com (go to swami's friends videos) but it's quite a bit slower in a stampede than in other vehicles. There's another vid at wild hobbies. You may have to do a bit of searching since it's in an old, old thread.

If you're worried about the novak not being as fast as you want it to be, I gaurentee it wont be. Unless of course you only run stock motors. Either way, you will quickly grow out of it. The novak is only equal to 12-14 turn brushed motor.

I say, go Reedy or Novak GTB. (You will still be able to run brushed motors on these systems). However, once you've run brushless, you'll find brushed motors to be almost useless. The 6-8 turn 400 sized brushless motors (8-12t brushed equiv) are the best TC motors if you want to go the sensorless route. Pair one these motors with an MGM 8012 esc and your set to go.

Jamie (Starluck RC) says he is getting together a package deal using the 380 (400) size Feigao motors, which will include a 540 mounting plate. The Feigao 380 6s is an extremely fast motor, and will fit touring cars well. It is also VERY cheap, at about $50-60! This motor is pretty comparable to a Hacker C40 6t, it will just run hotter since it doesn't have a built on heatsink.

50-60 bucks sound MUCH more in my range and if its faster then the novak A+.. What esc would I need?

The MGM with the brake issue is by far worst then a Novak ESC.

If you want to bash only ... you can get a 60Amp ESC for 50$ ... with a limitation of 60Amp .... I would go for a 3S Lipo set up and a Faigo 9s or 10s.

If you want to have a smooth controller ... then go for a Schulze ESC ... the "cheap" 18.61 is already very nice ... the U75 or 18.127 will be a killer for max power and smooth ...

Lipo, ESC and Faigo motors are available for cheap via http://www.himodel.com/ ... a killer cheap set up is :
2200 3S 12C Lipo : 42.71$
60Amp ESC : 50.99$
Faigo 380 10S : 63.75$
Adapter : 10.72$

This price is unbeatable ... and top speed will be cool !

MGM corrected the "prop" brake issue in their current line of controllers. It still has an option for it, though. But there is also an option to have it coast.

You can get the lrp motor for the novak super sport. There suposed to work together.

Thanks,
David

The LRP motor will overheat/fry the super sport ESC. They'll work together and are compatible, but amp draw will kill the SS ESC. The ESC is rated to 225 watts, and I think the Neo is rated at 225-255 watts.

Is there a way to hook up a mamba brushless competition x onto a TC3/4?

How about using the Novak HV Maxx system on the TC3?

There is no benefit in running either of those motors in any 1/10touring car.

The mamba is only 25 amps cont. 50 amps surge. That'll be fried in a few minutes of TC driving because of the high traction. Now the HV maxx is too heavy/large/space consuming. Plus to get anything outta it, you need to run ~12 cells or more. A 380 feigao and 60 amp or 80 amp MGM or warrior would probably do quite nicely and not take up 3/4 of the chassis...:D
