We lived in NO for 14yrs and moved in '89 when the business closed our office there and moved most of us. Still have a lot of friends there, we still visit often and have been checking with them starting last night when this thing decided thats where it was headed. They have boarded up to the extent they can and have left, not knowing what they will be coming back to. You know its bad when the only direction traffic can go is out of town.

I wish them all the best and hope everyone comes out of this ok.

How many other countries have offered to help out down there? None that I know of. The U.S. is the first one that others askes for help, and the first to respond, but nobody offers us any help. My prayers and what little bit of cash I could spares goes out to those down there.

i agree w/ broncobill..........i listen to people complain about gas here( michigan) hitting 3.19-3.49 a gallon..and as much as i dont want to pay it either, at least i have my car, my health, my family, my HOME,............what little i can spare goes to the ones who are in need,...........lot of businesses here are pitching in, kellogs, bristol/ mejers, ( infant formula), and such, we all are thinking of the ones down there, and to all the people here that have familes or friends involved, my heart and prayers go out to you.

You think no one helps you out when you need it? As a Canadian, Canada has already offered to help you guys out in anyway. We are already sending volunteers over to help you guys out. I'm sure other countries are asking for donations to help you guys out as well. Don't say no one helps you out becuase they do. Sorry to hear about the hurricane and I hope everyone gets back on their feet soon. My prayers go out to the families who lost someone

I do apologize, I see other countries are coming forward now. I get a little defensive when it's our own country. The US is one of the first, if not the first to send aid to other countries in time of need. So I guess I expect the same in return.

It's human nature to help those less fortunate, and or who don't have the resources to help themselves. And it was my own little stupid way to strike back at the US bashers out there. Once again I'm sorry.

How horrible, read this (http://dailynews.att.net/cgi-bin/news?e=pub&dt=050902&cat=news&st=newsd8cbs1t0f&src=ap). It is a sad state of affairs in N.O.

As far a Countries that offered help, get this. New Zeland sent aid workers BEFORE the disaster, to help get things set up.

I've been away from the forums due to katrina. I live on the northern part of the no metro area. Unfortunately most of my family lived in st bernard parish where water engulfed most 1 story houses. I am leaving montgomery alabama today to go back home. My house had minimal damage but there are other less fortunate people that I can help. I don't know how long ill be away from the forums, but yall are all caring people that have helped me through this hobby. Once again thanks for all yall do.
