As highly expected, just yesterday at the track I melted my Tamiya connectors while running a 10T and 3300's - with the Tamiya's; on my TC3 (anyone see anything wrong with that? ;) ). A few laps and as I took my car in for no apparent reason, I noticed a nice, crisp set of tamiya connectors on both my esc and batts. I recently replaced all of them with new 30+A plugs, and the car is much smoother and runs cooler.
*sigh* :)

What do you mean by a cover?

Nooo.... my ESC didn't even get a scratch! Its perfectly fine, the plugs that come out from the batts are the ones that melted from the intense current draw from my 10T (which they obviously couldn't handle) The heat from the one on the battery side radiated and singed the ESC one.
Everything (other than those few tamiya plugs) are fine and running perfectly. Strange thing is, everything (again except the old plugs) was surprisingly just barely warm....
Oh well, the tamiya plugs are goners, and I replaced them, Problem Solved.

yea, the only thing i use tamiya connectors for anymore is my starter wands for my nitro's lol. I personaly like lightspeed connectors for onroad. Offroad they might not hold securely enough tho.

Melting Tamiya connectors is a rite of passage in RC! :D :D

what a fine fine moment melting your first set of tamiya connectors. Mine was in 1995 I can remember it like it was yesterday. Those where good time!
Congrats on a milestone in your RC journey!

Heh.
I knew that it was gonna happen sometime... just didn't know when. At one point during some runs they got really hot. I decided to just let it slide, and a few runs later, they were toast.
I especially hated those darn clips on the tops of em

Tamiya's are only rated at 15amps. I've been using PowerPoles since 1991. They have never let me down.

Hmm, the guy at the track said they were rated at 10. Oh well, they're toast, and I'll probably never go back to them anyways.

What amazes me is (last I heard) some racers in Japan (I don't know what classes) have to use stick packs with Tamiya style connectors. I am sure they just look like Tamiya's with something else inside for the pins.

Unless they are racing Maibuchi motors, the would most definitely have to change the plugs. In big races, don't they inspect things like this?

Depends, no one uses Tamiya connectors at 'big' races anyways so that has never been an issue. Unless of course it was some weird TCS race. :p

After digging a little deeper I realize the JMRCA does have to use stick packs, but I was mistaken about the connectors. Guess I just got so used to seeing all those new high end cars on the TamiyaUsa website with Tamiya connectors it skewed my memmory :p

I would post pics, If I had the time to take pictures / scan, etc (as you may have guessed I don't have a digital camera)
Also, my friend wanted to experiment with them, so I gave em to him. Another reason why I can't take pictures.....
