Hi,
Could someone please comment on this selection, basically i would like to know if the selected speed controllers are compatible with the motors i have selected and wich would be the better buy. If someone could recommend a different speed control or motor around the same price that may be a better please feel free to post a message :D

First off, the 540 6s BLOWS. Don't buy that motor, it has no real application. The Lehner 5300 is a great motor, or try one of the smaller motor conversions that starluckrc is bringing to the table. The 6s won't really perform well enough in an onroad. Also, all the controllers aren't needed, I'd reccomend only the MGM 80 or MGM 120. They new controllers now can coast thanks to new programming, so they don't have many flaws.
And the number one rule, cheaper is not neccesarly better.

What vehicle will you be using? The 380 6s that Jamie at StarluckRC will be doing a combo with is a great motor for touring cars, and will probably work well with 1/10 trucks and buggies. This motor paired with a MGM 80amp controller would be cheap, too! Total cost will probably be about $240.

i will be using a TB02, its like the evo 3 from tamiya
also, consider this moter...
Feigao brushless motor 540 8s
Amps: 81
RPM/Volt(kv value): 4436
$70.00
and are the Lehner XL series worth a look?
im thinking about the Basic XL 5000 - 1300 Watts @ 125 Amps 5000rpm per volt
thanks :)

I have the XL5000 and a uforce75 esc that i bought 2nd hand together :) This runs well from the short runs i have tried in it (in touring car) - although the magnet seperated from the rotor (i think thats what happened -lol-) before i got to play round with it too much tho.
I've also been told the motor is only good for 6 cells - no more/no less. I think the lesser wind XL motors might be more benficial to you if you will run higher cell counts - but i dunno what controller you would need - i've also been told that this motor pulls mega amps - i think -lol-

Have they fixed the braking issue for certain ? I read elsewhere that it still existed.

Yes, they have. Now, there is another programming parameter that lets you choose between coasting and prop brake. So, it is still there, if you want it to be.

The XL Basic series motors are impractical for a touring car system. So stick in a Lehner Basic 5300 and MGM 80 and you're set. You can run 6-7 cells on that easily, more if you dare.

I did test similar set up with my KX-ONE.
Used a 3S Lipo 2200 12C
Used a Himark 2825-2700
Used a 11.30 schulze ESC
This has proven to be as fast as a 17T motor car. Quite nice to drive ... unluckily you need to get used to use brake more often ! The car was unbelivable silent on the track.
I have the HM-60A ESC, gotta try soon ... unluckily it was raining last weekend here.
But I belive it will work fine (at least for bashing) ... actually using the faigo with 4800kv and 11V should produce much more power then my set up ... but it should still work fine. I belive the 1700mAh 12C it is too little for the application ... I would use at least a 2200 12C for good power.

Sounds descent, but the lipo is a little bit too whimpy for that application. I am guessing from the two motors that Starluck has, the 8s and 10s, that the 9s would have a max current near 46-48 amps. I would get a battery with a continuous rating closer to the max current rating of the motor.

6S, 7S, 9S, and 13S will be in stock next week with a little bit of a suprise. 9S is rated at 46A and should be a good choice for 3S lipoly setups being awesome when paired with a Polyquest 3S4400mah pack.
We are going through a move and will be down a bit from Sept 1-12th so please bear with us. Exciting things to come once we get going in our new location with more time for testing as well.

e_lm_70,
i would be verry intrested in how the HM-60A (ESC) runs in a 1/10 car give it a run this week end if you get the chance and let us know how it works out. I cant wait to hear from you. :D
