What would be a good motor and ESC combo for a really fast(50+mph?)TC4? Plannning to run a 11.1v lipo(the 2100mah packs at maxamps..will they work?). Also on a budget so I can't get the most expensive stuff out there.
thanks

A Feigao 380-size 10s ($60) and any controller that can handle 60amps or more would work very well. The 2100mah pack might not be powerful enough. Look for a 3s2p of the 1500mah cells (11.1v, 3000mah), and then you would have a good combination. This would give you good speed (50mph should be no problem), great acceleration, and 10-15mins of run time.

No problem! That setup is as cheap as it gets. If you wanted more power, you could upgrade to the 540 9s for $10 more, which would give you more power, but its spool up time wouldn't be as fast (larger, heavier rotor). This would require a better controller, and more capable Lipos, though.
The 380 size motors are perfect for TCs because they are lightweight.

If you can afford it get the U-Force 75 for a controller. It is money well spent and in a touring car you need a controller that won't cog and has the adjustability that the U-Force has. It is worth it to get the computer cable too so that you can fine tune your brakes etc. If you have the extra money the plettenberg shadow is an excellent motor for TC since it is 4 pole which makes it very smooth. If money is a bit tight you could also consider a Lehner 5300 which has a 540 size can but a shorter rotor allowing it to spool up faster than most 380 size motors. It also directly bolts on so you don't need a motor plate adapter. Happy racing:)

The U-Force 75/Plettenberg Shadow combo would be the ultimate in performance, but also in high prices. No where near budget. The MGM controllers have some adjustability, like brake strength and acceleration speed, so they aren't that bad. They also cost a lot less.
The Lehner 5300 would take more time to spool up than a 380 motor would. It has a heavier rotor. Besides, the Feigao 380 motors cost 1/2 as much as the Lehner Basic series!

The plettenberg shadow will not work on 3s lipo and is also too much voltage for the lehner 5300. Starluckrc will be selling the 380 9s very soon which should bolt right in without any modifications. Either that or the basic 4200 or the twist 42. Do not get a 540 sized motor. Even though they are capable of more power, they will not be more powerful in a touring car. They will actually be slower due to the extra weight, voltage drop and spool-up time.

The 380 series needs an adapter plate (I have one). The 380 series spools up faster than the Basic series (I've compared them). The Shadow can't be used with 3s lipo (I tried).
I hate to say this, but for running 11.1 volts, I've seen specials with a Warrior 7018 and Basic 4200 for only $230 bucks. Should run very well in your TC4, get 50 mph easily.

Starluck has been giving hints about the "new" 380 feigao motors not needing an adaptor plate. :)

If you want to run Touring Car the controller will be a huge consideration. You will find that the Warrior 7018 is not nearly smooth enough to run touring car. I used to have one but found that the cogging that would occasionally occur seemed to always happen at a critical time and always cost valuable seconds. With the Schulze U-Force this never happens. I know that it isn't a low budget controller but it is better to buy what you are going to be happy with the first time instead of buying twice like I did. Get the U-Force and a Fiagio if you want to keep the price down a bit. I think you will be very happy with the combo.

Controller can be cheaped out on if your not racing (See another thread about a really cheap 60 amp controller in a car). If you plan to race though, make sure you get a high quality controller like the U-Force, Mtroniks ones, maybe an MGM?

New 380C series in stock in 6S, 7S, 9S, and 13S. Will be posted in the catalog soon. We are just getting set back up in our new location.

After doing alot of looking, I'm leaning towards the Schulze Uforce 50 or 75. I am going to race this car (RC10L3) on carpet with 3S 3600mAh LiPo and a Feigao 38084 12S.
The Mtroniks ESCs look about right for my app too.
I am concerned about other ESC studdering or not being optimal for high traction cars.
Where is a good place to buy a Uforce or Mtroniks in the US?

Buy directly from Mtroniks, their US importer doesn't carry their Genesis brushless stuff. Just email them or give them a ring and they'll probably be able to sort something out.
For the U-Force, I think starluckrc might carry them?

With the Mtroniks they have a "back to base" feature which can update the software. But it sounds like you have to send it in. I think with Castle Creations you can download and install the latest software from your computer.

Yes you send it back, I'm sending mine in today as they released a new firmware version last week. Turnaround is normally 1-2 days (if your in the UK). It has a special port on top of the unit for reprogramming, so they may offer a home link cable in the future?
Castle creations one sounds cool because you can hook it up to your computer and program it like that, but its several months off. The Mtroniks has been out since May and hasn't had any major problems since then (biggest one was glitching on some tracks when using a cheap rx, but this was fixed in V1.06).

There are a few places in the US that carry the U-Force 75. I got mine at fine design RC. I think there are a few other places that are a bit cheaper though. Make sure you get the 75A model so you have the extra capacity for later. The price is almost the same and so is the weight. You can also get a PC cable which will be worth while if you are racing. You can program things like the exact % of drag brake etc. Very good for the fine tuning. Have fun, you will love the Schulze.

b3racer, are there any improvements in V1.06? mine is still 1.05.
i'm satisfied at the moment and i don't want to waste time in sending and receiving my esc (about 15/20 days from italy and return) if it's not necessary.
i'm waiting for a new 380c 7s from starluckrc.
i can't find a good used basic 5300. :(
i'll run 8 cells with plasma 4400 and 6/7 cells with feigao 380c 7s.

The startup is supposed to be a bit smoother and the new anti glitching stuff is there, also I think compatibility with some radio gear has been updated, but no major things (its V1.07 currently, the anti glitch came about in 1.06). Oh its supposed to run slightly cooler as well. If your not having problems I wouldn't bother, I am simply because it'll take less than 72 hours from me posting it till its back in my car.
8 cells with the 4400 (Feiago 380 9s I think) is a really nice setup, should have a bit better runtime than the 380c 7s and maybe a tad more power? No bulky adapter with the 380c though.
