Hi, just replaced the tails on mine and my son's Firebird Commanders. The "V" on mine is more "splayed open" than my sons tail. I decided to do the modification where you glue a support strut across the tail (I usually do this mod on the tail anyway). I made the "V" angle the same as on my son's plane. Out at the flying field yesterday, both planes flew great after a little re-trimming accounting for the new tails. After flying 2 batteries each, it was time to go. I landed my plane and noticed my tail strut mod had come off! But I don't know when. :o Was it flying without the mod and I didn't notice, or did it pop off just when I landed? I had no battery power left to send the old girl up again to check. So, to my question: Just how critical is the angle of the "V" on a "V" tail?

Hi Crash,
There is a Q & A section called "ask Joe and Don" on the site www.djaerotech.com That deals with your question very thouroghly.

Cheers for that Dave. I checked out that link - great site, a wealth of information. I got a chance to fly the Commander last night in almost windless conditions. No issues at all. :) The plane flew very well so I think I'll leave the tail as it is. Maybe I was worrying over nothing, or maybe the Commander's very stable flight characteristic make the V tail angle less critical than other designs.
Anyway, thanks for the reply. :D
