This weekend I have the oppurtunity to drive a BMI TC4 with the new Reedy brushless in it and the first thing I noticed was the noise of the motor. I have been driving brushless for about 4 years and I have never had a motor this noisy (except my novak 5800). Does anyone else have the new Reedy system? Is it loud like the 5800?

i dont know why the novak and reedy motors make more noise but one hazzards a guess that its probably because there no where near as well built when compared to the german made motors and they use smaller bearings and rotor shaft this could be the cause.

Somebody in a german forum also reported on that.
But mine is quiet, at least not as loud as my Novak.

My guess is the bearings and vibrations the motor generates in the "endbell". The GTB has a larger bearing, so we'll see if it is, in fact, the bearing's fault.

I don't think it has anything to do with the quality of the motor/bearings at all. The novak and reedy have steel stators that cause the rotor to jerk in increments. You'll also notice the sound of the motors just by spinning them by hand.

Plettenberg and aveox both use steel stators and don't sound anything like the reedy or the novak.

You should have had me pull the motor out of the car... sounds like it's full of rocks when you run the motor without a load.

LOL, and you have two of them right? They both sound that way?

Yep.. thought the first one was broken when I first powered it up. I let the second one sit unopened for a couple days waiting to see (online) if anyone was having a problem with the motors being bad. Didn't see anything of the sort, opened the second one.. same thing. They both run fine though, we were getting eleven minutes per (3300) pack outside running at a decent clip. We were running one with a fan and one without (same gearing) and still haven't had one thermal... so far, so good. The LRP's are actually meant for our offroad trucks, just had them in the TC4's so I'd have a chance to run them (hard) on a track. I have a pair of each of the new Novak setups sitting here, I'll have one of each of those in a car next weekend if you want to try those as well.

I can't be there this weekend (and it is the trophey race on saturday, so no practice) but I might be able to be there the following weekend, the 17th. It will be interesting to compare the new novaks to other setups that I own.

That would be why I said 'next weekend' and not 'this weekend' - I may or may not be going this weekend but I'd be running stock if I do, none of the brushless setups would be in any of the cars this weekend.
