Here is a simple step by step guide to give people and idea of how I did my latest body.

I am by no means an expert (this is only my 9th body), but I know photos and a rough guide give newbies a good idea of where to start, as Festers guide really helped me.

My photography skills suck, so I will need to explain as I go.

1. Drew design on car. Sprayed the Faskolor Chrome, 3 layers backed with Faskoat (to protect it when peeling the next layers)

2. Next came the black shadows around the chrome. I used Pactra Metallic Black for this. Only 2 light layers of this, not backed with anything

3/ Time to add the pink. I really wanted to use a Fluro Pink for this, but had none, so I mixed some Fasred and Faswhite. 3 Layers, backed with silver

4./ Next, was a chrome outline of the pink to make it standout (no picture)

5./ Apply black shadows (Fasblack) before applying the Fasred/Faskblack top colour. This will give it depth. 3 layers of this backed with Faswhite (no picture)

6./ Fasblue mixed with Faswhite and sprayed the window framing and blue shadows around the chrome (no shadow)

7./ Spray with Tamiya white (2 coats) then backed with Tamiya Silver and then 1 coat of Faskoat

Thanks for the kind words Fester :)

Yes, its 3M Paint tape I use. I have the large size as well as the small size (which works well in contours). This tape is great as it provides sharp edges and doesnt leave any sticky residue when peeled off.

I actually use small hand held blades (I bought a pack of 100 for $10US) I find that it gives me better control as my hand sits closer to the body. I use one per body and throw it out when I finish.

i have a cheap xacto knife set n it works well but i have to learn to not to press to hard when cutting the design out!as soon as my new airbrush comes in,i also have a body or two i am waiting on from ebay!, i will try to spray agian s long as the weather holds up! its been gettn cold here especially at night,it dropped to like 58 degress.

i will let u know how it works out for me with the whole tape thing!,thanks!

Nice! so, how many layers of tape do you put on for masking?

Less is better!

I only put one layer on (overlap it by around 10mm). Anymore and you might have a hard time cutting it with a blade.

you know, I used to think the #11 exacto blade was awesome until I tried the EXCEL hobby knife I bought. wow, it has the same shape as the exacto, but the tip was sooo much stronger and sharper. Not only did I cut several bodies out, but also cut the masking on every one of them. I accidentally broke the tip when it rolled off the table. :( well, atleast I have the rubber covered body of the knife to help with comfort while I work witht the 1 body = 1 blade exactos.

excellent job on the paint! If you have only done 9 bodies I can't wait to see your work when you get good!
