does anyone have the savage 25 special edition? if you do how is it. i like the savage 4.6 but i dont want to have to buy the reciever, servos, and a radio. i also like the 25 but it isnt as fast as some of the other monsters. the 25 se looks cool because of the three speed, aluminum tuned pipe and other upgrades. is this truck good or should i look into just getting the normal 25 savage? any help would be appreciated thanx

Here it is at Tower Hobbies (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKZV5&P=X) fro $529.99 I still say get the K4.6 and a radio of YOUR choice and you'll be ahead. The 3 spd conversion is not that expensive either.

just you. height is affected by shock tuning and wheel diameter.

Havent really heard that either? Most MT's are very tough, just some peoples(kids) abuse them not use them!

i have never seen an LST finish a race day. shoot, i've never seen one finish a qualifier without breaking. and no, it's not just one i've seen. i've been to several tracks and the guys racing them are experienced racers. i know one guy sold his LST to buy a revo and another sold his LST and went back to racing his savage. the LST's are just weak for racing.

Experienced racers aren't necessarily skilled racers. I'm not exactly the world's greatest driver (I'm pretty damn good with a rock crawler...and I can control my monsters...but I'm not a racer)...but I can keep my LST together. I take care of the thing...but I use the damn thing, which means it sees air regularly. I don't mean T-Maxx style air either...I'm talking 70 feet worth of air...and it came back for more. The stock a-arms are a little weak...as are the diff cases, but that's it. Aluminum diff cases cost 10 bux each, and RPM arms are 15 dollars a pair. So, another 80 dollars fixes those problems. Honestly, after that, it's as tough as ANY other monster truck on the market.
Anyways...if you're still undecided on which truck to get, my suggestion would be the MGT, which IMO, is hands down the best overall truck money can buy. I currently own 3 nitro monsters, and I've driven most of the trucks on the market...and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that if I could only have one, it would be my MGT. It just does EVERYTHING well.

they are skilled as well as experienced. you take any truck and start modifying it with aftermarket parts and yeah, you can make it good. the savage is that good out of the box. it doesn't need alluminum diffs or rpm arms. i've only broke one a-arm on my savage and that's when i clipped my neighbors house at WOT in second gear. (flattened her gutter down spout. she wasn't too happy, but damn it was funny! :D )
i've never driven a MGT, but from talking to people that own and race them, they're a damn good truck too. if i get a 3rd truck (savage and revo currently), it will be a MGT.

I agree that you can make any truck good with aftermarket parts...but I'm not talking about an all-aluminum T-Maxx here...I'm talking two parts. A stock Savage can take the abuse in the chassis department, but the drivetrain is weak. The LST's drivetrain is the toughest of any monster IMO. The Savage's tranny is pretty stout, but the diffs are the weakest of all big block monster trucks, and the dogbones are complete junk (they are, after all, dogbones)...and the RTR pipe strangles the motor. Like you said, every truck has its weaknesses...and the Savage's are more expensive to fix than most...

actually, one of the biggest weaknesses that the racers around here talk about with the LST's are the CVD's. everyone i know of has replaced the stock ones with MIP CVD's because the stock ones break. the savage SS 4.6 kit has addressed every issue that you brought up about the savage, and it's still cheaper than an LST.

the limited edition savage 25 also has addressed all your issues as well. heavy duty dog bones (never broke one personally) 4 gear diffs, 3 speed heavy duty tranny, and alluminum tuned pipe. still cheaper than the LST (although the savage radio sucks, i'll give you that! :D the LST does have a sweet radio)

I've heard of some people breaking them...but I don't know how. I've heard MIP's units are even worse...and as such, discontinued. I haven't looked into it since I haven't had the problem myself...but that's what I've heard.
As for the Savage drivetrain issues...yes...the 4 spider gear diff mod means you don't blow spiders any more. Most people break the heavy duty dogbones, which IMO, are barely stronger than the non-HD ones. Seriously, it's insane how many replacement HD dogbones I sell. MIP CVD's are the only fix for that problem IMO. I have yet to have a customer who's invested in CVD's (they're expensive enough to be considered an investment) have anything but positive things to say about them, even at 65 dollars a pair. Breaking supposedly heavy duty dogbones left and right at 15 dollars a pair doesn't cut it for most people. As for the tranny...the two-speed isn't weak really...but it has had some problems with improper assembly from the factory, so the the whole tranny grenades. I've seen that on a few trucks lately. As for the three speed...that's had plenty of problems too. Those who bought the pre-built version have had a helluva time getting the shift points adjusted properly. Yes...it seems to hold up well...but it doesn't seem to work very well...which isn't really any better that one that works great but then blows up, ya know?

for the LST CVD's, i was just relaying the info i got from other users. i feel the same way about the savage HD dogbones that you do about the stock LST CVD's. i don't see how anyone could break the HD dogbones. i'm going on at least 6+ gallons since i first installed them. racing, bashing, you name it. they keep going. if i ever have issues, i'll probably look into the MIP CVD's though. good info on the tranny's. i don't know anyone with a 3 speed personally. i don't feel the need to get one since it doesn't give you really any more top end (hardly noticible) they say it gives more acceleration, but i've got a picco .26 and have a hard enough time keeping the front wheels on the track.....i don't need anymore acceleration! :D

ok i have a couple questions about the 4.6 savage.
1) Is it as durable as the savage 25?
2)what is good charger for nimh reciever batteries. i dont want a charger for 7.2v batteries.
3) Is 51 oz. enough torque for throttle servo?
4) Is 133oz. enough for steeringservo?
thanx a lot

1- Yes.
2- If you want something that'll charge it quickly, I'd go for the Dynamite Prophet Plus. Adjustable charge rate, AC and DC power options, 4-7 cell capability, 40 bucks. That's hard to beat. If you don't mind waiting literally all night to recharge the pack, you could buy an 8 dollar plug-in-the-wall charger...but if you're willing to spend a little extra to get the 4.6, spend a little extra and get a worthwhile charger.
3- Yes.
4- Yes, a 645MG will turn it quite well indeed.

alright thanks a lot for the replies!
how about the traxxas nimh charger that charges the revos reciever pack. i can get that for about 20 bux and i heard it charges the battery in about 1 1/2 hours.
oh and one more thing, i need a hump pack for the savage right?
thanx a lot

1 more
2 duratrax piranha
3 boarderline, i'd go higher. remember it takes torque to apply the brakes. i run 125oz in my throttle/brake
4 yes. i run 200oz in steering it's noticibly better than the 645MG

the piranha's $50 and it will do nicd's, nimh's, and any range of 1-8 cells. you can adjust the charge current to control how fast they charge. it's AC/DC as well. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCLD5&P=ML
yes, you need a 5-cell hump pack. i run this in my savage and used to run them in my MBX5 buggy also: http://www.carolinasrc.com/webstore/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=303
