Whats goin on?
I need some help short and simple
my revo runs poorly = i cant tune it properly so here we go
true or false 2.5 is hard to tune ? I want to upgrade to big block anyways T or F they are easier to tune. I removed the ez start because it gave me a fault one day and my truck wouldnt start I didnt like that, too many variables. so I cannx it put on a ofna shaft start system now it doesnt like to start I havent had time to reset to factory setting yet due to the endless rain. So I ask my peers for help. just some info I been into R/C for many years but this is my first nitro. Im stationed in japan so I have no local shop to ask only you guys . so thanks ahead of time . Q

the 2.5 is a very hard engine to tune, as it has a "mind" of its own i guess you could say. There are a lot easier engines to tune out tehre such as the os 18tm and the rb 323. Good Luck!

if you want to stay with the original configuration then go with the OS .18 tm
the 2.5 is a bear to keep tuned and like was stated earlier they have a mind of there own ,
i got a larger cooling head for mine and it seemed to steady out the tuning somewhat .
but shortly after doing that i got pissed and swapped out the 2.5 for a OS small block the cvrx to be exact ,butthat was for my tmaxx thoe ,not sure if it will work on the revo ,
but try the head swap if you have the time and money might do a world of good ,
also i noticed your stationed in japan ,just wanted to say THANK YOU for defending us back here in the usa
you take care and god bless

2.5 has a bad reputation about tuning, whether its deserved or not is another issue. I've had 2, still got one, and I find things are a little better if you take your time with it. They are a really strong motor when you find that sweet spot but they need a little patience to get one tuned to its best.
The 2.5 has a relatively small sweet spot and if you're tweaking the needles 1/4t at a time, you may miss it altogether. I make not more than 2hr adjustment (think clockface) and always on a warmed up engine. Then I give it a few minutes run time to understand what that adjustment actually did. Then I go from there with further tuning. Running day to day usually won't need to fine tune, but when its sat for a week or more, mine usually needs fine tuning.
The LSN seems to be under appreciated, mis-understood, not sure which, but on the 2.5, but it has a big affect on take off and temps. Once you get HSN right, set the LSN so it will idle for a short while and still have good punch off the line. Seems there's more than a few that either load up (rich) or have little punch (lean).

true on both occasions. i have a revo, a savage, and used to race 8th scale buggies. i can tune big blocks in my sleep compared to this 2.5R in my revo. i've got it running decent, but i feel like the motor's got more to give. if i upgrade though, i'll be getting the OS .18CV-R. the TM and TZ are powerful motors, but i can't justify the $200+ pricetag on them with the CV-R has about 85% of their power. just got to finish my starter box conversion so i don't have to use the ez start or a pull start. $60 for a revo starter box.

if i were you, i would try to get the nack for tuning the 2.5. that way you could handle anything. with my 2.5 i found that the HSN needed to be further than 4 turns and that the LSN is the "touchiest" (is that a word?) part of the carb.

I was having a lot of trouble with my 2.5R dieing on me untill I richened my LSN up about a half turn from stock settings. Runs great right there.
